OS Daily Thread - Sunday 28th September

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for the 28th September. It is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all!

Before I start, my OH says thank you very very much for all the birthday wishes he received. I am on strict orders to mention everyone who mentioned him by name and say he was really touched, so here goes.. Thank you to... Ladygrim, mioliere, Squiggly, Twink (he is addicted to your hobnobs btw!), Essex girl, sistercas, tired mum, BargainRzl (I like the idea of Il divo!), jannyannie, Kaat, taplady, catznine, Betheebee, Aussielass, lyndseyann, Anniestar & PippaS.

Ladygrim - he loves my singing! He was the one who first persuaded me I could get up in front of an audience to sing bless him!
Squiggly and MrsTittlemouse - my OH is a DJ at weekends so gets home around 0330 normally and (although he doesn't mean to) he often wakes me up so if I can't get back to sleep I give up and get up!!
Essexgirl - wasn't Strictly Come Dancing fab? I loved it!l In fact I love Saturday night TV at the moment, Strictly and Casualty and the X factor..
troo - I love the idea of having half a pig - especially as it seems quite cheap. We just don't have a big enough freezer for all the bits to go into!
Redruby - I don't know if you have tried QVC but I bought a nice furry throw from there for about £30 inc the postage I think. Might be worth having a look. And yes, once the OH had had about 7 hrs sleep I went and woke him up nicely!! :p
Aussie - so sorry to hear about the shingles, they really are so painful!
Purpledaffodil - granary flour? We haven't been able to find that, where do you buy yours?

Had a good day today, my Oh 'won' a nice tv on freecycle for his 'office' here in the house which he is chuffed about and when he went to his mums, she had baked him his favourite bacon and egg pie and a huge trifle for him to bring home so he and I ate free food today which was a bonus for both of us!! We both had a nap this afternoon too as he was back out DJing again by 1800. God we sound boring but unfortunately birthday or not, with his DJing hours at the weekend, we can't do much partying.

We are having some friends round for dinner on Tuesday to celebrate his birthday so looking forward to that. He also came back from his gig tonight with the biggest chocolate birthday cake I have seen in ages. Apparently the pub Manager ordered him one and all the staff had clubbed together and bought him another one too, so the first one was untouched! So now we have all this chocolate cake to eat..... It's a hard life..:rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyway, I hope you all have a great Sunday, *Hugs* to all and congratulations to anyone who is celebrating today.

  • Good morning to everyone

Hugs to those that need or want one and tissues for those who need to wipe a tear or nose ;)

Belated birthday wishes to Divas' OH. Since he still has celebrations planned, does that make me not too late ? lol

I still havent managed to catch up with what everyone has been up too. I had such a busy day yesterday. When i finally managed to sit down at 8pm. I fell asleep,Hense me being wide awake now. Oh and since i live with such a considerate OH and DS 2(13) They had kindly left me pots in the sink... the DW was empty !! WM was left with a full clean load too. So thats what i am going to go sort now.

I have to get my sleep patterns sorted.. I have finally started driving again after my attack over 2 years ago :) So i get really tired, really quick. I dont drive far but the independance it has given me back is totally amazing. I have been driving my DS (18) car when hes at college to get his brothers and pop to the grocery store.... But mine passed its MOT yesterday so hopefully by the 1st week in October i will be back on the road :) i am soooo happy. I feel like i am getting my life back finally.

Sorry to go on so much... i am just sooo happy

Must get some things done around here. Have a great Sunday everyone :)

Didn't sleep well at all last night, can hear OH's snoring downstairs!

Off to work in a mo, my back is still killing me from gardening. Taking DS to PizzaHut for tea to use half-price voucher. Also have ironing to do and need to help DS with his homework which he will probably winge about:rolleyes: .

    Have a good day all.

    Morning everyone,

I'm having a quiet moment here. DH has taken DGS to the dump. It was hard for me to resist not going  but I did. :D I made some bread, cereal & a cake this morning. The cake was called Strawberry & Cream Bread. I was a bit disappointed with it. Won't make it again. It had sour cream in it & it got rave reviews. Oh well it used up the strawberries anyway.

DGS arrived after lunch and I've just been playing play doh with him for the afternoon. I've got an almighty mess on the coffee table  which I'm waiting for him to come back and he can help clean it up. Had an early night last night and didn't wake up once. Amazing stories. :D

chocorange Glad your car passed it's MOT. :T
CM Did you survive the party? :D
LearningtoSave Happy belated Birthday for yesterday. Hope you had a lovely day. I meant to wish you one yesterday but it slipped my mind. :o

Well <hugs> to those that need them. I'll try and pop in later. Hope you all have a lovely Sunday. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    Morning.

Still dry here, for a few more days anyway.

Made some food for friends last night from recipees from the Morrisons free Autum mag. I would recommend getting one as the beef in ale and tomato and mascarpone soup are delicious.

Chruch this morning and a bit of gardenning this afternoon before the weather takes a down turn on Tuesday.

Got friends coming next week, so looking forward to seeing them for the first time in 2 years

    Have a nice day....

Morning everyone. Moneysavingdiva - glad your DH had a good birthday. I'd love the recipe for the egg and bacon pie if your MIL is willing to share it!

Well, yesterday we had to take our all-in-one printer back to PC World which was a nightmare. I had phoned the day before and they tried to fob me off and tell me take it to Epson's repair centre. As we use it for the business and had paid extra for three years' 'instant replacement' plus, under consumer law, the contract when you buy something is with the retailer, we insisted that they replace it. The branch is being refurbished but, instead of closing completely and just getting on with it, they are doing it a section at a time and keeping the store open. It was so disorganised in there that we were there for almost and hour and had five different members of staff dealing with us. They did not have the same printer so we had to choose another one which was dearer and they tried to make us pay the difference. We refused because it was not our fault that they didn't have the original one (it was 'end of line' despite being less than a year old). Anyway, we finally left with a much better all-in-one printer but, of course, the design was different so it wouldn't fit the same place; this meant reorganising the office which had just been reorganised when we redecorated two weeks ago! All in all, it took most of the day to end up with a working printer again. What a waste of a lovely day!

Still, DS2 and DIL came round after lunch (home made onion and lentil soup made in the Remoska) and we sat in the garden for an hour or so, which was lovely.

(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, Candygirl's Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Beth and her family and Meanmarie and Ulrick. Hope you all have a good day today.

Someone on the thread yesterday wanted the recipe for Savoury Impossible Pie, courtesy of AussieLass - I just scribbled it down on an index card so here is my scribbled version. It is still delicious.

    SAVOURY IMPOSSIBLE PIE

    1.5 cups milk
    Half cup SR flour
    3 eggs
    Salt and pepper
    1 diced onion
    1 cup grated cheese
Any grated veg - I use all sorts, carrots, cabbage, courgettes, runner beans - just about anything you have lurking about in the fridge.

Mix all the ingredients together and bake in a moderate oven (Gas 5 which I think is 175/350 electric) for one hour.

I have made with added chopped ham, or bacon or sausage - it always turns out well and is a great way of using up leftover veg that is a bit past it's best.

Well, it looks like a lovely day again today so let's hope it lasts.

    See you all later.

N9eav - I also thought the Morrisons mag was full of good recipes. I haven't tried one yet so thanks for giving the thumbs up for 2 of them.

Decamped to another room in the night due to DH's snoring. He has this horrible cold that's going round so I didn't like to dig him in the ribs as he was sleeping (obviously!).

It's to be another sunny day here so I'll wash our bedding once DH gets up. I think it's rain later in the week so I'm trying to get ahead now.

Love loved loved Strictly last night and Cheryl (sp??) was just fabulous. So very elegant and looked such a professional from start to finish - no collapsing in a heap on her partner's shoulder (I'm sure I would) but head held high to the end.

Some ironing to do for the week ahead today and also plan a menu. General tidy up and get the livingroom kind of straightened. Should have done it yesterday but it was too nice a day tongue.gif. I bought a turkey steak yesterday for £1.50 instead of packet meat for sandwiches so will marinate it and then cook and slice and that should do us for 2 days I think, with some salad in the sandwiches as well.

Haggis for Sunday lunch. You can tell that my DSSx2 are not here today. I have an organic turnip left over from my veg box so I'm sure that will taste good.

Have a good day folks and ((((hugs)))) to those under the weather

    Morning peeps

we arrived back from our holiday in Cornwall last night, we had a wonderful time. It did seem strange - a whole week with no internet access but i just about survived :D

I `ve really missed everyone on the daily so it`s good to be back in front of the pc (how sad am i) and now i`m getting everything unpacked and put away. The washing from just one week is scary and i`ve got the third load in the wm at the moment - i just wish that we had brought a couple of days worth of the lovely weather back with us to get the blasted washing dry, now that it`s light outside i can see that it`s raining and dull :(

I want the sunshine back! *stamps foot*

I`m off to do a new freezer inventory shortly and then i can sort out this weeks meal planner and go to the supermarket later, i can see quite a bit of baking happening later too as i think that most of the biscuits/cakes out of the freezer were eaten before we went away or taken with us so i need to check the cupboards for ingredients too.

I`ll make a start on that now and catch up with everyone later.

Have a lovely relaxing Sunday peeps, ((((HUGS)))) for everyone.

    Morning :hello:

I'm hoping to stay in today, I'm sick to death of being on the motorway  I don't know how commuters do it every day, week after week. It's soooooo boring.

It's cold and foggy here, the heating's on and I'm not apologising for it :p It's a perfect day for making bread, stew, cakes and baking loads of potatoes. That should fill the freezer up nicely :D

FIL wouldn't let me clean this week, he said that as mr troo is on hols we should go out instead. The cleaning he wants doing is general tidying, hoovering and dusting but we popped in for a visit last night and saw the state of the fridge, kitchen and bathroom - I was  so I'm going armed with rubber gloves and my own cleaning stuff. My first week will be a long one :D

I keep forgetting birthdays :o so here's some cake :D
