  • oh did you deal with budgets and money and things as part of your admin job? you might want to look for junior project manager roles where they will train you up as it is just organising a big group of people into getting work done in the right order and not spending too much to do it. maybe look at this learndirect site for ideas for job titles you could look for jobs in for skills that could be transferable from what you were doing - unless you are looking for exactly the same role then I'll but out as apart from monster, reed and jobserve I wouldn't know where else to look as the other sites I know are all it specific really.

If you can do a couple of versions of your cv one more tailored to straight admin playing up typing / organisational skills. Then another one which is more where you were given responsibility to sort things out so could be a stepping stone to some kind of office manager / project manager job?

If there is a piece of software you're good at or something put that into monster and see what jobs require that then see how interesting they look or if you think you could find out if the skills you have could work in that kind of job or if they don't mind training you up if you're keen.

The hard bit it is getting your cv "out there" but if you apply for 20 jobs a day as a target on different websites - even if they aren't the most relevant - then that gets your cv out to more and more recruiters that means one of them should have something for you even if they aren't advertising it yet. I know it is hard to keep the momentom going though which is tricky.

Depending on how busy your life is with all this I don't know if you have any skills you could use volunteering at iT4Communities not all the things they have are hugely technical it might be you can help them set-up a process to help cope with how to answer their emails or something like just writing templates they can cut and paste, but this will be more things to add to your cv and more contacts for people who might be able to help you find a paying job. Also it might help to try out expanding your role into areas you might just do at home but haven't thought about doing as a job. Also sign up to linkedin if you're not already it is like facebook but for business and you can find people who you've worked with before and see if they have anything going etc.

Anyway, I hope some of that helps in some way, just remember YOU are not redundant it is just the job that is, and it is no reflection on YOU and YOUR work. It seems terrible at the time and seems to be more and more common (happened to me 3 times and friends a couple of times now) but it is all about how you get back on the horse and show them and yourself that you're worth so much more and sometimes it is just the kick you need to change careers or improve on what you had. :grouphug:

I just want to say this is my own personal experience and way I have got jobs after being redundant I'm sure other people will say there are other ways to do this, this is just my thoughts without knowing your industry etc I don't know if this is relevant to you but I hope it can help in some way.

  • You guys are all so sweet!

I say admin, I actually worked in property, resourcing warehouses, a little like and in house estate agent. But have fingers in many pie, if you know what I mean. I can get by typing etc, but the plan is to get a job, any job and go from there.

I will upload my cv on as many sites as I can and see what happens. I'm going to trawl through the local paper again today and see if there is anything I missed and wiz my cv off to any I find.

Then tomorrow is all the leg work to the agencies etc. I'll see if I can get any temp work in the meantime to keep me busy and bring in some money.

Talking of which I have manged to sell 2 items on Amazon over night which is £14.17 heading my way. Not much, but it is a start! :T

Date went very well and I didn't have to pay for anything which was nice (and a relief, if I am honest :o) especially as the meal bill came to £50 excluding drinks .

So plan for the rest of the day is to package up the Amazon sales, ready for tomorrow. Hit the paper again and try to get my cv on monster etc and see what happens.

  • Oh lucy I'm so sorry to hear about the job. I would advice nipping to the CAB just to check whether your company have allowed all the neccesary rules for redundancy and that you're getting everything you're entitled to though. Good luck with the job hunt though. *fingers crossed*
Glad the date went well! Will you be seeing him again?

  • I will get a settlement payout, but I need to go through the paper work. I don't think it's that bad a payout really.

I'm looking at about £3,000 cash and then consultants who will help with my cv and job hunting etc. I don't know if that's good or not. I was with them for about 3 1/2 years.

  • Hi,

I have asked OH to scan and email you the info the CAB gave me. I am so glad that you seem more upbeat.

Hopefully you will get another job soon and the 3k can be saved.
