Actually, I arrived here on page 1. I've just been on holiday since... ;)

Suiko, thanks for the full log - I'm no HijackThis expert (yet ;)), so I'll leave that to people like GunJack, who has some good suggestions for you.

Also, GunJack is correct about needing all the techie details about the RAM. There are quite a lot of different types/speeds of RAM, and only certain ones will work with your particular computer motherboard. It's a bit like you can only put certain types of tyre on a particular car, despite having many brands/sizes available, if that makes sense. :)

    ~Jes :)

I'm still on holiday, but I still have the common sense to scan the thread before I post. Everthing that you wrote had already been covered. Twice.

Thanks. OK, I will post all details under SD and Memory tonight. And will try killing off a few things on startup, as you say. I have been through the Add/Remove Programs thing - will have another go. There are quite a few things the previous owner had which I'm not sure if they're needed or not.

I had a lot of freezing last night, so I uninstalled Comodo and turned on the Windows firewall again, and Tea Timer. Didn't have any more freezes after that (yet). I have a lot of work to do in Word so I figured that was the priority for now.

Just the Module Size & Maximum Bandwidth under SPD will be fine.

Whilst you are there, go to the About tab and click on Registers Dump. Save the .txt file to your Desktop. Then repeat that action for HTML Dump.

All the information, including the maximum RAM capacity and RAM currently installed will be there if we need access to it.

You really need more RAM. 512MB extra will do if you are on a tight budget.

Yes, I do realise that now. Thanks.

OK... module size is 128Mb, bandwidth PC2700 (166 Mhz). I've saved the .txt and .html files should they be needed.

THe monitor wouldn't work at all at first tonight. THink I reported this before, ages back... anyway, I didn't know what to do, until I remembered I stuck the memory stick in before I booted it up. Hey presto... removed memory stick and monitor starts as normal. Is this normal?

Can you check the .txt dump for the maximum RAM capacity?

It's quite close to the end of the page, just above the Operating System.

    e.g.

    DMI Physical Memory Array

    location Motherboard
    usage System Memory
    correction None
    max capacity 1024 MBytes
    max# of devices 2

    512MB RAM from play.com 9.99

We'll see as to whether it can accept 1 GB modules when you come back with the .txt report.

Couldn't find "operating system",but is this what you need?

    DMI Physical Memory Array

    location Motherboard
    usage System Memory
    correction None
    max capacity 768 MBytes
    max# of devices 3

Ouch - XP, Comodo and TeaTimer on 128MB RAM - no wonder you got freezes! Whatever your friend was using the machine for, I'm thinking it wasn't that strenuous... ;)

Hmmm, that looks suspiciously like the motherboard can only take 256MB modules, and a maximum of three of them - am I reading that right, Donnie, not played with CPU-Z before? Could be fun to source if so...
Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek... ;)

I think that suiko may have two modules of 128MB.

suiko, copy and paste here whatever you have in the fourth section of the .txt report, under chipset and also what is under Mainboard.

In addition, run cpuz.exe again and under SPD check what is in slot #2, by using the 'dropdown' box available there.

Looks as if you will need two of these or here.

I'll hold off recommending the cheaper PC3200 here until I'm confident your Motherboard can accept it. Generally backwards compatible, but don't want to make assumptions.
