yeah i see what your saying but im still confused.
How can they say for 100% that it was from them or from me (it is not).
It could easliy have been dropped in by another company who were working on the machines.

Tesco themselves probably don't make the food anyway but they could examine it and see if it's something that could have made it's way in from the factory where the food is made. Part of machinery or something.
  • Sadly, in this day and age I feel you must hold on to the evidence just to be on the safe side.
DH used to work for McDonalds and during his training, he was taught that if a client found a foreign object in their food such as a cochroach or an abcess in chicken to take it away from them and give them a replacement item. That way they would have no evidence.
You should not send them the item. You should get photos or allow them acces to the foreign object under your supervision and on your terms but under no circumstanmces would I trust them with it.
I would get legal advice from your local CAB. You were very lucky that your son was not injured and whilst it was most probably an accident that the item got into the food it is clearly unacceptable and you deserve some form of compensation from the retailer/producer.

Without having read any of the replies. I too was in this position (with Tescos), and I too wondered what you are wondering. I decided "to hell with it" and just gave it to them. They were very honest and wrote back to me with a very plausible explanation and said things have been done to make sure it didn't happen again. They Identified the object and it certainly made sense to me that of course that is what it was).

If I was you I would think the photos are proof enough. Give it to them so they can find out what it is. And they will compensate you.

I agree with the recommendations by scheming_gypsy. You nned to be clear what you want before you act - Do you want compensation, or do you want them to try & find out what went wrong and fix it so it doesn't happen again.

If you want compensation, you can always jump up & down and refuse them access to the object. I don't see why if you wanted the shop to try & find out the information, you would deny them access to it. By all means A) take pictures & log who & when you spoke to etc & register deliver the packet & item to the head office OR B) refuse them access to the information / item and spend months obsessing because they need the information you won't provide & are not sure if they believe you because you may be one of the thousands that try to con them each year.

Why complicate matters before you need to?

why do some people want to take things to the extreme over something that is more than likely a very honest mistake? Don't you think the trading standards have more important things to deal with than issues like this that can be dealt with simply by following the company's procedure?

Well i think my sons health is the most important thing they can deal with.
i think i take it to tesco's let them take a cutting off it and i keep the rest.
i have photo's and a video clip to prove the size it was before tesco's got hold on it.
This way they have what they need and i have what i need just incase
    that make sense??

Whilst I agree than going direct to Environmental Health might be a bit OTT and that you should let the company try to deal with your complaint first, the sad fact is that some companies policy clearly states to their employees that they must confiscate the foreign object to avoid any lawsuits!
Hopefully this is not the case with Tesco, but I feel caution should be advised and records kept of all contact with the Tesco just in case.

I have a nasty suspicious mind! :rotfl:

Did no one see my reply?

I have dealt with Tesco on this kind of issue. They are honest, they will try to find out where it came from, they will tell you what they find and they will give you compensation.

I think cutting bits off it is daft, either you want to take them to court over this or you just want to report this to them so they can stop it from happening again.

If you want to go to court, keep the thing and go and see a solicitor tomorrow.

If you want to help them to stop it from happening again, take it to the store, fill in the form and leave it with them.
