Hi all
Just a quick one.
I bought some cheese tomato and basil tortellini from tesco a couple of days ago I cooked it up yesterday myself and my son sat down started to eat when he started to cough & choke I put him over my are and started to hit his back but nothing was happening so I put my fingers in his mouth pulled out the pasta to find a piece of what can only be described as green wire in the pasta.
I have called tesco head office they have logged my complaint, I have been advised to take it and the packaging into tesco and get the manager to fill in a pr125 form I am lead to believe this is the incident book.
My worry is they have to send it away (fine ) but im worried someone may tamper with it.
Do I cut a piece of so I have so evidence? on doing this they said this may affect their findings. I have taken photos but I feel like I should keep a bit back just incase it is tampered with.
Also is there a regulation body for supermarkets??
I can’t believe how relaxed they are about this, all I get is just fill this form in and wait 4-6 weeks. Well sorry this is just not good enough when it comes to my son’s health.
Thanks for reading sorry I went on abit.

I would contact your local consumer advisors at your local council they should be able to help0

That must have been so frightening for you, I'm glad he is OK. I don't know what you should do regarding the keeping a bit back, if it's a smaller piece that gets sent away it might not look as bad, hopefully photos should be enough but as you say they may tamper with it to cover their backs. Good luck, you're not going on, I'd be hopping mad too.0

They will take your complaint seriously and if they're anything like Asda where I work, it will be sent off to an independent laboratory for tests. Is your son OK? Have you had him checked by a doctor? If the wire scratched his throat it may swell up. Also, a medical record would back you up in your claim. When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0

He seems to be his happy normal self thank you for asking. I did'nt take hime to the doctors as he seemed fine apart from being shook up.
Do you think i should take him just incase???.
There was no blood and he is eating as normal. LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0 -

Actually Asda aren't so good with things like this. I was eating a breakfast in the Asda cafe at Pudsey about 3 years ago and found myself chewing on a small piece of glass that was in a fried egg. I wasn't injured but was concerned as I had a small child with me who could have copped for it. From the moment I alerted the cafe manager to the two months lated when they sent me a sorry letter with a £5 voucher (WOW !) their attitude was that they thought I was lying and trying it on. They admitted eventually that they didn't send the glass to the lab as they thought there was no point (?). Not the best way to keep my family's custom.
I did feel much the same as the OP seems to feel here, - that the offending article may just end up in the bin, or 'conveniently' lost. I think photo's should be fine though, some next to a ruler to give a scale of size. Make sure you show it to an independant witness before you send it back, a friend or the local vicar when he pops in for tea! just in case they do lose it. I wouldn't cut anything off it or change it in any way. I would also point out to the manager when you take it in (whatever you do DONT post it anywhere) that you may require it back and you want them to treat it with the utmost care and not 'misplace' it. Get them to write something to that effect on the form.
It must have been awful when it happened and I sympathise with you and your son. I don't want to sound like one of the "Sue 'em" brigade but you do really need to be compensated in a significant way for this but don't mention that until they do. Good luck.Light blue touchpaper and stand well back !0 -
Wobbley,I'm sorry that yout local branch didn't give you the treatment they should have done. When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0

In my experience, if you go through T/Standards or Enviromental Health, and you are after monetary compensation then you probably won't get any- your best bet is to go to the retailler direct and kick up a stink- Watchdog and local/national paper's love things like this!0

To be honest compenstation is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment. All i want is them to take this for what it is. this may seem a bit over the top but just say the front door went i answered it my son could have coked dare i say to death. The point is i would never want this to happen to to anybody luckily i am the first aider at work and i used to be a lifeguard so i have had all sorts of training but somebody else may not of know what to do and tesco seem not to give a monkeys whats happend. LOVE LIFE PROCEED & PROGRESS0 -
if you give them the evidence they will just destory it and send a standard letter apologising. I would take it to local environmental health. Also take photos..0

My friend took a packet of microwave rice (top brand !)back to Asda after finding what looked like a cooked maggot in it! They assured her they would return it to Uncle Sams!! It conveniently ended up in their bin! Only after she chased it up to find out progress did they discover what the manager of the Toryglen Store had done to it! She did receive £50 in vouchers from head office and the new manager of the store, but could never touch microwave rice again!!
If I ever have anything to return I would go to Environmental Health as they have nothing to lose or win with the big companies! :mad:No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:
