I know for that sort of money not to expect much but normally i find aldi very good but wont be buying that fish again
Maybe it was a bad batch!
We've been buying them for a couple of months now and had nothing but huge chunks of perfectly white dry cod and haddock.0 -
Lidl generally is great for food and I buy more from there than any other place now.
Smoked Salmon is great and a bargain at £2.59
Smoked Wafer thin ham is great - no added water
6x250ml bottles of water are good and come from the same place as some better brands
Part baked rolls and baguettes are delicious especially if they're still warm out of your oven
Extra mature cheddar (purple packet) is as nice as Cathedral city / Pilgrims choice
A lot of their chocolate is great and their premium vanilla ice cream is goregous (it's got tiny little black flecks of vanilla in it - better than Carte D'Or)
the things I would steer clear of:
Their bags of chewing gum - flavour doesn't last long and some flavours have a bitter aftertaste.0 -
We tried the Aldi chicken 'new york' style (freezer section) the other day, was very nice! And the Aldi maris piper frozen chips were pretty good too.
I usually pop in for the fruit, german ham, cheeses which are all very good0 -
We went to Lidl the other day and I have to say, I was very surprised! We liked:
Pork spring rolls (frozen) - Lots of meat and no gristle - in fact, DH said they were better than M&S!
Doner Kebab (frozen) - not my cup of tea, but DH reckons very passable although not as good as the 'real' thing ...
Milton Gate bacon & sausages - we both thought they were fantastic! Best bacon butty I've had in a long, long time!
Smoked Salmon with herbs & horseradish sauce - Another excellent buy.
Crusti Croc cheese & onion crisps - really tasty and fresh!
However,we werent impressed by their coloured (red leicester) cheese. This to me felt a bit like those awful processed cheese slices they put in burgers.I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum
Cos how can you be gloomy, when the sun shines out your bum?0 -
Has anyone tried the Glenfell frozen part boned chicken breasts from Lidl?
I bought some today, £3.99 for 1.3kg.
The bag says contents chicken breasts with skin and breastbones 100% so I am assuming there is no water content in them.0 -
Just getting used to Lidl shopping as they've recently opened a branch near us (Yay!)
I picked up ham and sausage from their reduced section yesterday then realised at the checkout that OH had helpfully already put same full price items in trolley previously  Decided to buy them as they are still a 'good buy' When I've checked, the use by dates are within a day of each other on sausage and the same on the ham. Worth going to reduced section first I would think:D Obvious I know:oThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

I've noticed that Lidl have introduced a laboratory backed quality control mark on many of their toiletries. I assumed these so called labs were Lidl front companies, but I've checked them out on the interent. They are genuine independent laboratory testing companies. It might be my imagination, but I think these products have improved as a result, for example:
* Lidl Cien Shower Gel Orange, Lime, etc... quality mark by Institute Dr. Schrader. These are really good now.
* Lidl Cien Body Lotion quality mark by Institute Dr. Schrader. Great body lotion, the one in the white bottle seems fragrance free, perfect for sensitive skin, and those who don't like fragrance in a body lotion, (ie. men).
* Lidl Toujours Baby Wipes, quality mark from Courtray Consulting Labservice. These are excellent, and not just for babies. The second listed ingredient is Aloe, so lots of Aloe, less chemicals.
I hadn't used these products in a while, they seem far better quality then I remembered them. So if you haven't tried these recently, I suggest testing them out again. I've read that the Lidl skincare range (Cien lotions and creams) are made by Nivea, I can't confirm this though. Although it would seem to make sense, because the packaging and products are similar. Also Nivea is made by a German company, Beiersdorf, and the Lidl Cien skincare line says "Quality made in Germany" on the back.0 -
Would recommend Miltongate pork and apple sausages (real little pieces of apple in them..(why was I surprised?) and Gelatteri Choco Almond Ice lollies, in my opinion nicer than Magnum, really nice smooth ice cream.

Hi. I have just bought some Crownfield cornflakes 500 grams for 86p from lidl and they taste exactly like Kellogg's. So we have saved quite a bit of money. Their Milk is fine as well. £1.09 for 4 pints instead of £1.53.
Has anyone else tried the Crownfield cornflakes, just for interest sake?20p savers club
