There are 2 of us in the house and after previously shopping at Asda we started to try odds and ends from Aldi in August. We now do most of the shopping there and instead of the weekly shop costing £50 it now costs £30. We have found we like:
their cumberland sausages (something like 90p)
all fruit and veg
the milk (pasturised)
the mild cheese
the frozen meals which are in an oval container like a "steam" meal
their orange juice
the snackrite crisps
the orange juice at 59p per carton
the French lemonade
the diet cloudy lemonade
all cooked meats
the pizzas
the strudels
all icecream
the cats love their dry cat food and the cans of meat
the large British eggs
the block of irish butter
any chocolate
any biscuits
their toilet roll (not the aloe vero one)
the kitchen and bathroom cleaner
their hair shampoo/shower gel and conditioner
their extra special burgers
their extra special chips
fishfingers
the muffins with orange/lemon fillings
we didn't like as much
the minced beef
the lasagne frozen ready meal
their version of rice krispies
their bread (unless it's the roberts' extra thick loaf)BSC support number 158

DEFINITELY recommend it! I'm a big fan of Baileys but rarely buy it (bit too luxury to fit in the budget). This stuff's lovely and its on offer in our Lidl at £4.50 at the mo. Stock up! (It's called Queen Margot something)0 -
2004 Château Romer du Hayot, Sauternes
If you're looking for a classic French sweet pudding wine, you'll struggle to find anything better than this remarkably good-value classic sauternes blend of semillon, sauvignon blanc and muscadelle, whose lusciously concentrated sweet barley sugar viscosity and honeyed botrytis fruit cut by a cleansing blade of fresh acidity make for a delightful confection.
Aldi - half-bottle, £6.99
in plain English I think that means it ain't half bad0 -
does anyone know how long Aldi's Super 6 offers usually run for ?
I have today finished veg that I bought when this recent offer first started and will be wanting more for christmas but would like to leave it till as late as possible before buying [ it definately is the best lasting quality I have found this year so far]
it says while stocks last ???? could they just remove it without warning ??0 -

My husband is the Baileys drinker so I bought the two Aldi versions for him to sample, both of which received the thumbs up. I'm certainly not going to buy the expensive Baileys any longer now that I know the Aldi's version are good quality!2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0

ALDI - Supreme Tomato Soup - Avoid.
Usual brand Heinz, the supreme version from Aldi had a very metallic taste, binned it.
ALDI - Supreme Vegetable soup - Not Bad.0 -
Baron St Jean wine is IMO awful.
I have had a few good wines from Aldi and Lidl. I always forget what they were(must remember to keep the bottles from the good stuff).
Does anyone have any wine recommendations?
Liberally swiped from last week's Sunday Times:
Veuve Monsigny Champagne, £9.99 Easy-going nutty, apply flavours; soft yet crisp. Nobody can be making any money out of this (Aldi).
2007 La Dolomie Pinot Grigio, £3.99 Most sub-fiver pinot grigio has the character of tap water, but this has flavour: lime, apple and minerals (Aldi; reverts to £4.99 after Christmas).
2007 Bushland Single Estate Chardonnay, £3.99 Oak-matured Australian chardonnay with fresh, bright fruit (Aldi; reverts to £4.49 after Christmas).
Nothing from Lidl in her list though. Maybe there isn't one near her or maybe she thinks that it's crap0 -
And from yesterdays Independent:
2006 Château Soussans
"Once again Aldi shows that it can match the big boys for value with this appealing, vivid, modern young claret from Margaux, whose cedary scents and blackberry fruit make this Christmas special unbeatable at the price."
£6.99, Aldi"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

I buy the Queen Margot's Baileys-alike from Lidl and find it very similar indeed, possibly very slightly less sweet but Baileys fans seem to either comment positively or not to notice the difference!0
