Aldi - love the Lime Marmalade, the Hi-juice Blackcurrant is as good as Ribena and I think all their cooked meats are excellent value - particularly like the Sicilian style ham. Oh and the sliced salmon in the chiller cabinet."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I always take my own bags and have them standing opened and ready to fill in the trolley, anything I cant get packed quickly goes loose in the trolley and after I've paid I move away from the till and take a couple of minutes to finish packing. There is always a rush there and I find it better to move away and pack rather than pack hastily and break or smash something.
Take your own bags (they charge for them)
There is usually a packing bench away from the tills
They DON'T have baskets - you need a £1 for the trolleykate_white100 wrote: »I love Lidl - I always take my shopping list there then go onto Tescos for the bits i can't get.
Especialy good i find are
Grated Chedadar
Partbaked bread
Their parmesan cheese is also good, as are their waffles and choc croissants
Don't like the coleslaw personallyTiger_greeneyes wrote: »Oh yeahthey have Christmas cakes in already, I bought two at £7.99 each to use as a two-tier wedding cake as I'm getting married at the end of the month. I've just ordered some ribbon from Ebay to replace the tartan Christmassy ribbon which is wrapped around it. Much better value than spending £75 on a wedding cake. By the time I've finished with it, it'll look like a proper wedding cake... I hope

Aldi - I started shopping with Aldi about 8 weeks ago and have found it a good experience. Here are my tips
Good
Anti- Wrinkle Cream- works wonders
Facial cleansing wipes- excellent (currently BOGOF 79P!!)
Hand cooked crisps
Cinema style popcorn (sweet)
Ridge Crisps
Bleach
Macadamia Bodywash
Dentitex Sensitve toothpaste (only 59p)
Clothes Softener
Fruit "n" veg excellent quality for the price even those that are not on special offer
Edam Cheese
Butter
Eggs (99p for 10 and a good size)
Extra Large butterfly prawns- succulent and juicy (special select)
Oven chips - chunky - great taste -(special select)
Ice Cream - advocaat & walnut (doesn't seem to be available anymore)
Fresh chicken- excellent value 1.7kg (large) £3.21
Family size potatoes - 5kg - £1.99
Excellent prices on non grocery items which are generally reduced if not sold within two weeks.
Most name-branded items are cheaper than in other supermarkets
Long queues at checkout but rapid service
New lines introduced weekly
Not good
Continental cheesecakes - nice ingredients, no taste, awful
No dates on fruit/veg which is mostly pre-packed
Some items only stocked for a short period
Bought but not tried

I buy the following from Aldi - it is a 10 minute walk from my house!

large choc bars 60- 70% strength with caramel bits in
Choc Raisins and Peanuts - scrummy
Cheddar and Parmesan cheese
Soft Cheese with garlic - just like Philadelphia but cheaper
Yogurts - very nice
Fresh Orange juice - long life and not from concentrate
They have recently started selling free range chickens - about £5.50
Frozen Veg
Frozen ready meals - pasta in a Bolognaise sauce for about 90p are great
Pesto
Curry cook in sauce
Tampons
Washing Powder
Face Creams £1.89 in a jar for day and night cream which are lovely
Lidl
I do not have one of these near me so I do not use them that often but I do pick up the following if I am passing
porridge oats
pitta breads - though these do not always seem to be stocked often
creme fraiche0 -
The reason why they ask you to turn your trolley is because that's the way the tillpoints were designed and it makes it easier and faster for the customer to load the trolley that way instead of having to lean over it.
Recommended: Milk Mouse chocolates. Tasty choc pieces with milky filling with tiny (hazelnut?) bits in them. They are reduced at the mo to 79p.
One of my friends work in liddle, not sure if your store is like the one we have near where i live. But in ours you fill your trolly at the till, then move your trolly over to the side where there is a large bench where you pack your bags after you paid. They are told to go as quick as they possibly can and if they dont scann quick enough they get warnings. Also they are supposed to turn your trolly for you and this is so they check if you have anything left in the trolly and to make sure eveything is on the belt.
I find the place a hell of a lot cheaper than anywhere else!
Egg custard puddings with a thin layer of caramel on the top
All ice cream
Dont like the white sauce for pasta! tastes strange.0 -
Just been and topped up at Aldi today, noticed that some of the prices have crept up quite significantly lately?
For instance, I love their instant latte in sachets - I am positive that this time last year I used to pay 99p for it, its now £ 1.42 in my local Aldi (and that is saying the price is reduced on the sign too!)
I am not sure if its just me being tight? or just taking more notice of prices now. but I wasn't too impressed thats for sure, thats nearly a 50% price increase in a year!
I can't fault the quality though, its the best one I have tasted! :T0 -
I went to Aldi's for the first time this morning and purchased £47 worth of goods based on many of the recommendations on here. I will update with my list of what's hot and what's not once I have sampled themMy mantra is "Never pay full price!"0

Hi
Many of the products in Aldi are of a very good quality and are easily a match for Tesco and Asda products. The twice weekly specials provide an interesting mix of products, although they do get repetitive on the same yearly cycle. However, many of the products have almost doubled in the last twelve months and please spare a thought for the workers who consistently work 12-16 hour shifts if you include commuting and often work with very few breaks. A number of staff end up making themselves ill and mentally and physically drained. The "low" prices are achieved at a human cost.
Asda may be slightly more expensive but the atleast they abide by sensible employment rules.0 -
Bit dissapointed with Aldi fruit ? Got their "Special nectarines" and they were furry inside with absolutely no flavour ? Also their apples were the same......pears went off really quickly too !
I like the brie and blue cheese in Aldi good price and flavour...veggies are ok too.0
