What other cards are available besides the top ones on the site? None of them quite seem to fit for me.
I don't like AMEX on principle, since they charge a chunk more to retailers.
I doubt I'd make the 15 transactions per month needed for the barclaycard (which would otherwise be rather good, as I tend to make a few big purchases, I just can't see my spending adding up that much)
My main transport cost is a local bus company, which isn't included in the santander card, and a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation puts me only just getting the annual fee from supermarket and the occasional weekend train journey.
So the only option left is the capital one card for those with a bad credit rating... What else is out there?0 -

You've pretty much killed all the options and to be honest the Amex excuse is poor + Some merchants actually get Amex cheaper than Visa and MC. My brother runs a restaurant and Visa and MC are 1.8% with Amex being 1.6%. Visa and MC have a set rate for each category, Amex decide on a merchant by merchant basis.
Only other option is the Nationwide select I guess. If you bank with Nationwide.
Something else you might be interested reward Visa and MasterCards charge retailers and extra % or two than their standard rate, so you'll be costing them just as much as an Amex :P0 -
I'm on the look out for another card too - current cards as follows;
Aqua Reward Cashback Card - maxed out the £100/year cashback - due to reset in July
Capital One Aspire World (I think) Cashback Card - maxed out the £100/3 months and the rate has now dropped to 0.5%
Amex Gold Charge Card - this is my current card but once I hit the £2k mark (in about a month) I will probably not use this as my "main" card.
Will start investigating...0 -

What about an Amex Platinum Cashback Card? Better cashback rates than the Capital One Aspire. 5% for the first 3 months and 1.25% for the rest of the year.
If you travel, one of the Airline cards would be great. There are several sign up bonus offers at the moment.0 -

Ah thanks, the Amex Cashback Card wasn't on my radar - the £25 annual fee is a pain but with FourSquare + Cashback I should get back several times the annual fee.

Fair enough, hadn't actually realised that! Amex are just associated in my mind as being annoying to get accepted anywhere, and a bad deal for the guys you're buying from... I'll probably start using my current credit card (my firstdirect gold card) a bit more regularly (after the direct debit gets set up of course!), and see how much I spend on it, and whether the AMEX works out to be a good deal.
Does paypal count as a normal purchase if I link my card to it? That'd probably be the best way to push a chunk more cash through it, and maybe enough purchases/month for the barclaycard to be worth it (since I have a few subscriptions that come out of paypal)0 -

I thought you had to be a non-amex customer for 6 months before getting another new customer offer (and OP is just doing the gold card bonus thang)?
How about the Barclaycard 6% intro offer along with a Santander 123?I think....0 -

That applies to cards of the same "reward type". He doesn't own any Amex cashback credit cards.0 -
Why nobody consider waitrose credit card and clarity reward (available for existing customers)?0
-
There are a number of threads on the forums that mention the Clarity Reward card. Search the forums for it.
The Waitrose card isn't particularly relevant because a) it gives points as opposed to cashback so isn't actually a cashback card and b) it gives the equivalent of 0.5% in vouchers (1% of spend in John Lewis and Waitrose) so isn't particularly generous.0
