I live in York (which doesn't have an LPG garage in the city ) . I travel to Wakefield to fill-up at Morrisons garage at 34.9 ppl, plus the equivelent of 1.5 ppl off the pump price (via 'points = £5 shopping' card).
The services at Colton (nearest to York) are charging 45.9 ppl!!!! How can they justify this??
Sorry if i'm hijacking the thread a bit (and I will go and post this info in TaxiGas if I don't have any FireFox issues) but as much as I applaud the petrolprices.com site idea, I don't think I need it just now.0 -
PetrolPrices.com is continuing to save me money - thanks!0

Hello money savers
(my 1st post here)!
I went onto petrolprices.com and I'm not too happy about the amount of personal information they require, even down to door number (not just postcode).
I tried to use an anonymous e-mail service (so that in case they do spam my inbox it will be a temporary one only) however when I put in the e-mail address it says: Sorry but that type of email addresses is not allowed due to potential abuse with the service. Please try a different address.
If this system looks so deeply into your e-mail address to check whether it is permanant or temporary, then what else does it "check" for?
I have read the privacy policy and terms and conditions and some parts of it do worry me. I'm not sure whether I should risk giving my exact home address as well as my e-mail address away. On the other hand, I've been looking for a site like this for ages.
Has anyone received any unwanted e-mail or unwanted postal mail due signing up to petrolprices.com?Art wrote:Before you can get the name of their cheapest station they ask you to fill in a form with your personal details. I wonder if they are just using using the site to build up a database for future use.
Arthur, what is it exactly you mean by building up a database for future use?

P.S Taxi thing doesn't show anything for my area.0 -

I've got my own domain name so have started registering on each site by giving a unique email address - e.g. petrol@xyz.com - that way I can see where spam's coming from.
So far I've received nothing I wasn't expecting from petrolprices.com and I've been very pleased with the savings information provided - been a while since aapetrolbusters closed down.
I've suggested to them that they provide a WAP service, be even better if I could get prices when on the move.
Cheers, GeoffreyI'd be happier on holiday in Brittany than being at work !0 -
Thank you for that information Geoffrey.
It's much appreciated. I will be signing up.

Hi Jibberjabber25,
http://www.TaxiGas.co.uk works by people contributing or updating prices.
Would love to have your contribution, especially if there are no prices reported in your area yet!
It works on the same principal as this messageboard: people helping each other.
Happy New Year! :snow_grin

Just to say I have found PetrolPrices.com very useful. However, I think it would be better if there was an option to see all the service stations within the search area (not just the cheapest 5 or 10). Often I find all the cheapest 5 or 10 have the same price, which suggests that some of the ones lower down the list are also the same. It would be more useful if I could compare prices of my most local station with ones on the other side of the same city; as it is at the moment I can't do that.
Otherwise, I've found the data to be quite accurate.
One other suggestion - although this is probably a bit technical! - is to link the fuel price data with a route planner, so I can find my route from A to B and find the cheapest fuel along the way.
I'm afraid the taxigas site seems like a good idea in theory but in practice fairly useless. PetrolPrices data is automatically gathered and updated daily - requiring people to log in manually and update data for their area is obviously not going to be as accurate or efficient.
Since you don't profit from the taxigas site in any way, why not give up on it and support PetrolPrices instead...?student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -

TaxiGas.co.uk does this.student100 wrote:One other suggestion - although this is probably a bit technical! - is to link the fuel price data with a route planner, so I can find my route from A to B and find the cheapest fuel along the way.
You can download data from TaxiGas.co.uk to view in Google Earth, which has an excellent route planner and even animates your journey.student100 wrote:I'm afraid the taxigas site seems like a good idea in theory but in practice fairly useless. Well if I gave up, I would deny users the choice. Believe it or not, TaxiGas.co.uk does have quite a lot of traffic. You're quite right, not as many people as I would like are reporting prices, but in those areas where it has taken off, it seems to have more locations than petrolprices.com indicating to me that their data is more up to the minute, but not necessarily more comprehensive. Although the site makes no profit at present. If it does take off, then I hope the books will be in the black from the advertising revenue. "Useless" is a bit harsh! It just needs more public spirited members like those who contribute to moneysaving expert.0 -
I've used petrolprices regularly for about 6 months now. I've found their prices accurate every time I've visited a filling station (Clearly I can't vouch for the prices where I didn't visit.) I have not received any unsolicited e-mails as a result of giving the registration data to petrolprices.Overall I deem petrolprices to be a GOOD THING.Keep up the good work.
As an aside as an AA member I e-mailed them to ask why they'd dropped petrolbusters and not allowed MSE to take it on. That was over a week ago. So far I haven't had a reply.0
