Find the cheapest petrol prices in your area

Worse still I've just found that if I put in EX16 to just bring up the town I live in it lists "Tesco Tiverton" which isn't even built yet! They're still digging the foundations!
The non logged in page on our site just queries our petrol station database to find the closest stations to you (regardless of whether we have a price for them)
When you sign in, you get a different page of results, showing the cheapest stations near you and their locations, e.g. for EX16 you would get:
Jet Horsdon Garage Tiverton 0.1 miles 87.9p 24-11-2005
Bp Tiverton Service Station Tiverton 1.33 miles 87.9p 28-11-2005
Morrisons Morrisons Tiverton Tiverton 1.46 miles 87.9p 28-11-2005
Esso Old Blundells Garage Tiverton 0.67 miles 88.9p 28-11-20050 -
I've just used this site & it was comforting to know I already use the cheapest (current) petrol station in my area. However I did notice that at the top of the page it stated "18 searches left". So what happens when I run out - is it chargeable - or do we just lose access? anybody put it to the test yet?0

You get 20 unique searches per week. E.g. you can search for the same postcode/fuel type as many times as you like, but each time you change the area or fuel type it counts as another search. Searches are reset every Monday morning if I recall correctly.0

100% accurate in my area for both unleaded and diesel.

I've found the best way to save £££ on petrol is to take the direct route!! All too often the Government :wall: want us to use their choice of route. Instead, have a look at a map and look for the shortest route (often not using a congested bypass or motorway), and take it. In my car (Ford Focus) petrol costs about 10p per mile, so 1 mile less = 10p saving. Even if in the process my fuel consumption rises it's often still worthwhile.
What's more you'll experience the joy of a new route. :T0 -
Thanks to a previous moneysaver (i trust you do give credit Martin to your contributors) i logged on to this site last week and it appears to be very accurate0

Well, here's my pounds's worth (you don't save tuppence worth on this site, you save more!)... or do I mean, tuppence a litre is a pound off my fill-up?
TaxiGas.co.uk - sorry Richard, but the functionality of your site does not work on the increasingly popular FireFox browser which I use (no heading graphic, and nothing happens when clicking the "View Table" button). Found I did still have a copy of Mickysoft Internet Exploder 6.0 and tried that - ah, improvement - graphic appears, but the Table fails and tells me "Sorry, no prices found in that region" which given I am inside the M25 is not much help. Hope you can fix this soon.
PetrolPrices.com meanwhile works on FireFox and tells me I have 23 stations within 5 miles of me. Ah, that's more like it. And the prices are accurate too. Here's a natty enhancment to consider, Paul... Give the user the ability to save one "favourite search" and then produce an RSS/XML feed based on it. Then I could get a daily report (as you update your site daily) of the cheapest fuel around me automatically to my desktop.

Hi jpjp,
Thanks for the feedback.
1. Firefox - When I get time (I have a day job, a 22 month old son and no budget) I'll investigate the FF problems. Thanks for the heads up. [Edit: just checked it out on Firefox and although no header graphic, the view table and view map seem fine along with the best method of viewing the results - Google Earth (Really worth checking out!).]
2. No prices within the M25 - Our top contribuotr is painting the South and West of London with up-to-date prices. As I said it is a "help each other site", needs volunteers to report prices, much as we help one another on this moneysavingexpert messageboard. If it doesn't get enough support there's not much point in developing it further. Check out the prices for the Cambridge area, many more than on petrolprices.com (at time of writing).
There are lots of new members since my initial post here, but no new prices reports from them yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Best Wishes,
Richard0 -
Once I registered the lowest price of 84.9 disappeared.
The cheapest shown now is 86.9.
Still a good tool...0 -
I just signed up for petrolprices.com, and there are two stations near me with the same low price (which I already knew cos I watch these things
). But it is possible to save a little extra, as Morrisons still have points cards for petrol. They mount up slowly but a fiver to spend in the store every couple of months is a nice bonus.
