Try whizzing the tuna with some cottage cheese and seasoning. You could also add some onion if you like. If you have pink peppercorns they go nicely instead of other pepper for the seasoning. I also do this with smaked mackeral.

I'd mix the tuna with some spring onion, mayo and maybe some soft cheese like Philly. Give it a whizz in the liquidiser and season to taste with pepper and lemon juice. You could always add some peppers, boiled eggs, pretty much anything you fancy.

I do one a bit like this too - we call it tuna concoction - I just mix a tin of tuna with chopped spring onion, chopped cucumber (without the seeds), chopped tomatoes, chopped hard boiled egg, salt and pepper and some light mayo and salad cream. Sometimes I whizz it in the processor before I add the dressing to chop it really small or sometimes I leave it chunky. It tastes better than it looks!

Can I ask a related question? (Didn't want to start a new thread)

I love tuna, but only use the stuff tinned in brine. Somehow (don't know whether it was an order error or a selection error) I've ended up with 4 tins of tuna in sunflower oil in my Mr T shopping delivery

Does anyone have any hints on de-oiling tinned tuna? I don't want to waste it, but can't use the oiled stuff the way I normally do (mixed with mayo & sweetcorn) as the oil makes me want to boak!

    xx

If you drain it very well it is OK used in fishcakes/tuna pasta bakes etc. as the potato/pasta etc. seems to soak up any oiliness

I've never tried it, but I wonder if putting it in a sieve and pouring boiling water over it would work - might be ok for tuna you're going to use in a hot dish

If you drain it very very well (in a sieve would be good, but please do not put boiling water on it  You could always but a plate on top to queeze more oil out.... I have a special can drainning thingy that does it straignt in the can)....... there will be very little oil left. Sunflower oil is very bland and the little that is left will just mix in with the mayo..... I promise you won't taste it... i do this myself all the time...

    Hi salthepal,

To make tuna pate, drain it and mix with cream cheese, lemon juice and black pepper. I normally use a stick blender, but it's fine to mix with a fork.

This thread should give you lots more ideas for using tuna:

    Savoury tuna on toast...
Well drained can of tuna, flaked, seasoning to taste, finely chopped onions and gherkin, mayo and grated cheese.
Load onto bread toasted on the bottom side, tuna on the untoasted side, place under a hot grill.....yum yum yum.
    :D

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • And if so, could you share your recipe please??
    Thanks :D

not something I've ever tried but I don't think it would work very well 'cos the tuna's not chunky enough.
