BT Retail and BT Wholesale (or Openreach) are effectively two different companies - they just so happen to have the same parent company, BT plc. MADF and PlusNet are (I imagine) owned by BT Retail, and due to competition laws, BT Retail has to buy off of BT Wholesale (with no preferential treatment) - that means they pay the same charges as any other ISP.

Those charges need to be met by customers at the end of the day, otherwise the company will fail if it cannot obsorb them - why would any respectful company want to run at a loss?
  • This charge is absolutely rediculous and we should go directly to BT and complain. BT have crippled this country's broadband for years and this is just making it worse. We are plagued with activation fees, cancellation fees, delays and faults, and in the past we have been subject to arduous migration processes. All of this is BT's fault. If we want things to improve then BT have to change. This charge is both confusing, unnecessary and it just plain stinks.

    We have to get MAD!

    It isn't "unfair", just different.

Plusnet are acting in line with their ts +cs.

Unfair contracts cannot be enforced, but testing the Plusnet one in court over this £20 is just not viable.

Not at all sure they are because unlike Madasafish the Plusnet T&Cs are silent on the issue and don't even include the word "deferred".

OFCOM advice is that licence General Condition 9.3 requires there to be no charge. The only option is to formally complain to Plusnet in accordance with their code of practice and if still dissatisfied refer the issue to CISAS.

That's free to complainants but may not be risk free to the ISP so its not exactly clear who is over the barrel....

    Hi guys,

Humble pie and apology time from me.

Due to an oversight (by me) in the MAAF terms and conditions, you wouldn't be charged for deferred contracts if you were to leave under our 30 day change notice period.

so anyone with a MAAF account CAN cancel their contract and pay no penalties / remaining monthly fees ??

if this is the case whats the best way to go about cancelling (and by best i mean quickest/least amount of hassle ;))

  • I've been with madasafish since the start (Stornaway)
I have contacted them several times asking them why I am being charged £17.99 per month instead of the advertised £14.99 a month .
Phonecalls do not come up with the answer and Emails are ignored even though it comes up with a response time.
Has anyone else received this treatment ??
Then they have the cheek to tell me I have gone over my 5gb limit and they will be adding £2 to my staetment but do not mention the £3 they are overcharging me a month ??? how long has it been £14.99???

not all ISPs move you onto new (cheaper) packages when they become available ... but if you signed up for the £14.99 deal and paying £17.99 then something is clearly wrong
  • Hi Badnellen,

If you PM me a username I can take a look at your account and advise if you like?
