Hi
I had some all bran this AM and tasted slightly soft and wondered if anyone knows of any OS ways to use this up in a recipe? Also, have Special K not keen on and wonder if can be incoporated into something else?
Thanks!

All bran can be used in muffins. I have posted a basic muffin recipe in the recipe thread which may be of use to you??

OK, so I have a storage jar full of bran. I recall buying it because I thought it was healthy (might have been for muffin making).
OH keeps on asking what it is for and it keeps on reminding me it is there every time I walk into the pantry.
Anyone have any ideas (I really mean recipes) I can use it in?Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -

I use to buy Jordans Bran. And I would add it to things like the sauce in spag bag to make sure I got more bran in to my diet.
Not sure what else to suggest.

This probably wasn't what you had in mind, but if all else fails you can use it to upset the slugs in your garden.
If you surround your plants with it, the slugs eat the bran instead and it screws up their internal system because they can't digest it. It fills them up and prevents them from eating anything else and they literally starve to death and leave a lovely fat juicy titbit for the birds.
It keeps the birds regular as well0 -
You could have a bash at the Apple Bran muffins which are in the mega index. They are nice, though not as nice as Double Chocolate Chip muffins (no surprise there). If you make them you might like to cut them in half and spread with jam as they aren't terribly sweet.
Otherwise a spoonful onto breakfast cereal or sprinkled into soup and stews etc would ensure everyone gets some roughage into them.0 -
I've just made some cranberry cinnamon bran muffins from my GI book and they're lovely and healthy too!
50g (1 ¾ oz) wheat bran 1 egg
30g(10 oz) all-bran 60ml (2fl oz) rapeseed oil
¼ tsp salt 150g (5oz) wholemeal flour
120ml(4fl oz) boiling water 1 ¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
240 ml(8fl oz) skimmed milk 1 tsp cinnamon
165g dried cranberries
sweetener equivalent to 80g(2 2/3 oz) of sugar
- in a bowl combine the bran, cereal and salt. Pour the boiling water over and stir to combine. Stir in the milk and set aside.
- In another bowl whisk the egg, sweetener and oil. Stir into the bran mixture.
- In a large bowl stir together the flour, baking soda and cinnamon. Pour the bran mixture over the flour mixture and stir until just combined. Divide the mixture among 12 lined or greased muffin tins. Bake in the over 190*C (gas mark 5) for about 20 mins or until a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
Makes 12 muffins.
Storage: these muffins can be kept at room temperature for about 2 days or frozen for upto a month.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
My vet told me to sprinkle it on the dogs food when she was a bit bunged up. Much better for her than the tablets apparently.Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0
