Um, I've just read this thread & the nosy part of me is dying to know if this has gone any further yet? lol :)

    Actually it has.

The seller sent me a 'round robin' sort of email on Saturday that was sent to 6 other addresses, the email was in caps again and the first paragraph mentioned her disabled son (odd as I am sure the original emails said it was her that was disabled?). Basically she is accusing one of us of hacking her account and getting her suspended (it isn't entirely clear what she means) . She also confidently assures us that ebay have our details and have confirmed that we are all going to be suspended and pay a fine and that she hopes that the person who hacked her and suspended her is happy that she can't now get any of her money to buy her disabled son a birthday present.

I have just checked my ebay account and seller is showing as suspended, so that explains what her email meant. I will email paypal again and ask them to release my funds back to me ASAP.

I'm not having much luck with these 1p books though, I am still waiting for a book bought 10 days ago and seller has not emailed me or responded to my polite enquiry asking whether book has been sent. I will open a basic dispute in paypal today and email her again asking whether the book is on its way.

  • i wanted a certain dvd boxset that retails at £20+ but saw it 50p starting with £3 postage...... decided i wanted to pay £15 max i set my max and won for £4.20 all in :-D .......... bargain ....... and seller emailed me today (less than 12 hours after auction end) to say she had posted it ......... not even a business ...... only 88 feedback.......... now thats what ebay should be like :-D.........

for every bargain you win, you will get 10 x trouble sellers :rotfl:

I think the idea of getting free postage through a company almost needs to be discounted for the purpose of this thread as it is very rare indeed.

I have received an email from one of my sellers basically saying that it is all a mistake and ebay want me to send her more money in the post. her first couple of paragraphs explain that she is disabled and hasn't been able to respond until now, but she then goes on to say:

AS I SAID EBAY SAID THIS IS A MISTAKE AND YOU CAN’T BUY A HARDBACK BOOK FOR LESS THAN £4 AS IT IS NOT ALLOWED. ALSO YOU DIDN’T PAY ENOUGH FOR THE POSTAGE AS IT WAS 1.80 AND I ONLY GOT 1.54 FROM PAYPAL AS YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DEDUCT FEES FOR SENDING ME MONEY. EBAY SAY IF YOU SEND ME £4 IN THE POST THEN I AM ALLOWED TO SEND YOU YOUR BOOK.

I think we can deduce from this reply that the sellers IQ level is a tad lower than their feedback score. :rotfl:

I got an email about my 1p book, and thought it was going to be the seller explaining she couldn't send it. But it wasn't, they just apologised as they couldn't send it that day. So then I thought maybe this was gonna be the start of them messing me around.

But no, they posted it the next day and it arrived :D

  • Oh well, sounds like you'll get your £s back soon then! Thats good. I bought something for 1p last week, it arrived today & is gorgeous! I can't believe there was not other bids for it!! If I was the seller I'd be crying at selling it for that price, suppose if your gonna list stuff that low you just have to take the chance it'll go for that price & not make up stories (as hilarious as it is to read on here!) when you only get a penny for things!

Glad you got it sorted Soolin! :)

I've opened my other dispute (not a chargeback yet) for another 1p book and am awaiting any response at all from the seller.

Do me a favour though, next time I say I have found a marvellous book for a 1p, someone hit me :rotfl:

    reply:

"I AM SORRY TO HERE YOU HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED FROM THE INTERNET. I WAS IN HOSPITAL ALL WEEKEND VISITING MY DISABLED MOTHER SO I HAVE ASKED EBAY AND THEY SAID IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ME WHO HACKED INTO YOUR HOUSE. ALL TWELVE OF MY (DISABLED) CHILDREN WERE SADDENED TO HEAR OF THE FINE AS I AM STILL SAVING UP FOR THEIR CHRISTMAS LUMP OF COAL. SO I PERSONALLY TELEPHONED EBAY MYSELF AND THEY INSIST IF YOU PAY MY FINE, SEND THE HARDBACK NOVEL, AND REFUND ALL MONIES THEN THEY WILL UNSUSPEND YOU.
PLEASE INFORM THE POSTMAN TO LEAVE THE PACKAGE ON THE BACK DOORSTEP NEXT TO THE WHEELCHAIR"
  • I had a problem back in 2005 when I listed a 3 piece green leather suite and a mahogany TV cabinet, both at 1p start as I was urgently downsizing. I stated on my ad that items had to be collected by the Friday (listing ended on the Tuesday or some similar time frame) due to my moving and that the buyer needed to be in contact with me before the collection date. All very clearly stated on the ad. The suite sold for £40ish and the cabinet sold at the 1p start price.

1p winner man ignored said instructions and didn't contact me at all, despite several emails from me. So I gave the cabinet to the people who won the suite. He then had the cheek to give me negative feedback, he'd paid me the 1p via PayPal and made all sorts of accusations against me. My only negative in my 5 years on ebay as a buyer and seller :rotfl:
  • What a smeghead!
I actually tried to list a couple of underpriced books as BIN in an attempt to boost my DSRs (my listings are currently demoted after an Italian buyer unfairly marked me down. Tbh anyone buying from or posting to Italy or Spain should be grateful if it arrives at all, never mind expecting it within about a week). Anyway, I got a message saying that the price had to be at least 99p! I suppose I could try a 1-day auction starting at 1p, but listings take so long to show up that it would probably only be visible for a few hours, and even then it would still be hidden behind other auctions finishing days later.
