Yeh, it's the only perk I get. I don't get any paid overtime even though I'm expected to do oevrtime, there isn't a bonus or incentive scheme for me, no scope for promotion or payrises, so they allow me to put the odd item in the post. Still think it's not bad at all?? He He!

Well it is a benefit in kind of course and therefore taxable. There are also vigilante buyers, we had a thread on here last year, who contact companies when they get franked post asking if the employee is using the postage with permission.

Our franking machine doesn't have any reference to the company on the labels.

I refuse to feel guilty about it and won't worry about not paying tax on the odd parcel which only costs a couple of quid if that to post. My boss is the accountant and she has asked me to put something through recorded for her which was personal so I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.

I have sold items which were valuable and heavy and paid for that postage myself.

I think the idea of getting free postage through a company almost needs to be discounted for the purpose of this thread as it is very rare indeed.

I have received an email from one of my sellers basically saying that it is all a mistake and ebay want me to send her more money in the post. her first couple of paragraphs explain that she is disabled and hasn't been able to respond until now, but she then goes on to say:

AS I SAID EBAY SAID THIS IS A MISTAKE AND YOU CAN’T BUY A HARDBACK BOOK FOR LESS THAN £4 AS IT IS NOT ALLOWED. ALSO YOU DIDN’T PAY ENOUGH FOR THE POSTAGE AS IT WAS 1.80 AND I ONLY GOT 1.54 FROM PAYPAL AS YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DEDUCT FEES FOR SENDING ME MONEY. EBAY SAY IF YOU SEND ME £4 IN THE POST THEN I AM ALLOWED TO SEND YOU YOUR BOOK.

oh dear. I have responded politely explaining that I paid the correct amount and that ebay would not suggets that I needed to pay more than the winning bid. I also explained about paypal fees but ended up suggesting that she just returns my money and we leave it at that. I also suggested that if she does relist that she puts £4 in as her start price.

Why do so many people use "being disabled" as an excuse for late payment, not sending goods, not understanding how ebay works etc?

I know and work with a few people with varying degrees of disabilities, and it is so rare to hear any of them use it as any sort of excuse, or even bring it into a conversation.

I thought the disabled bit was odd as well, especially as her initial paragraphs just used it as an excuse to have delayed contacting me for almost a week without any other explanation. I agree with you Steve, I work with a very large disabled charity and it is very very rare for anyone there to even mention they have a disability.

Soolin you should've given them a taste of their own medicine

"I'M SORY THAT U HAVEN'T RECEIVED ENOUGH MONEY TO SEND THE ITEM BUT I AM DISABLED AND THAT IS ALL I CAN AFFORD. THE BOOK IS A GIFT FOR MY MOTHER WHO IS ALSO DISABLED AND WAS TAKEN INTO HOSPITAL LAST WEEK AFTER HER PET CAT WAS RAN OVER. I HAVE PERSONALLY ASKED EBAY AND THEY SAY YOU MUST SEND THE BOOK AS I'M DISABLED AND OFTEN HAVE TO ATTEND FUNERALS
MY TWELVE STARVING CHILDREN AWAIT YOUR RESPONSE
    THANKS YOU"

Well, I've had another missive from her. Apparently ebay have told her that I can't refuse to send her more money and that as I am a liar and a thief they will ban my account (ban me from what I am unsure).

I have opened a basic dispute on paypal asking her to refrain from her silly name calling and send me my book or a refund, we will have to see where she goes with this next. This particular seller has around a dozen things ending tomorrow morning and I think her game plan of 1p starts is going to cost her even more tomorrow if the bids stay as they are now.

Another of the sellers has emailed me to say my book has been despatched and that I have got myself a bargain!
