Well it is a benefit in kind of course and therefore taxable. There are also vigilante buyers, we had a thread on here last year, who contact companies when they get franked post asking if the employee is using the postage with permission.
Is that for real? Are people really that petty? What makes them do it? I'm intrigued, dismayed and horrified. In the words of Chris Kamara "it's unbelievable (Jeff)"

I remember that thread coming up around the same time I had to deal with this at work - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=682577
The guy lost a tribunal in the summer on the issue, as the postal thing was just the tip of the iceberg.
If you do have an arrangement with your work about, just make sure it is documented somewhere.
**EDIT** Just realised it wasn't Squee that was using the franking machine!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Wow - just read that thread Steve. Unpleasant all round I'd say!
But would someone really take the time to contact a company from details on a franking lable to check that the package they've received has been posted with compliance from the company?
I guess if that's the only thing you've got to worry about in life then you're very lucky!

squee, yes they will especially if it was a large company or a public company. In the NHS for instance anyone using the post for their own goods will get a written warning and I am happy with that as where would you like your money to go..on medicines or someones ebay parcels.
Likewise with prices going up all the time would you be happy to think that say Boots employees were sending parcels through the mail..or would you rather the money stayed in the company to hopefully keep prices down? Or maybe you think it is Ok from smaller companies, those small family offices for instance..is it Ok for them to pay for ebay parcels and then only pay the new staff basic wage to keep costs down, what about charities..should people expect to be able to send their ebay parcels using their post?
Who chooses what is right and what is not? What 'class' of company do you think it Ok to use postage from and how much do you think each employee should be allowed to use, £5 a week..£50 a week..once one person is given a tentaive right to use the post free of charge it becomes implied that it is OK for them all to do it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well, I've had another missive from her. Apparently ebay have told her that I can't refuse to send her more money and that as I am a liar and a thief they will ban my account (ban me from what I am unsure).
I have opened a basic dispute on paypal asking her to refrain from her silly name calling and send me my book or a refund, we will have to see where she goes with this next. This particular seller has around a dozen things ending tomorrow morning and I think her game plan of 1p starts is going to cost her even more tomorrow if the bids stay as they are now.
Another of the sellers has emailed me to say my book has been despatched and that I have got myself a bargain!
I am just stunned by this Soolin. What a load of horse manure! People are so strangeshe just didn't do her homework did she?
Yesterday I won a cat carrier, collection only, for 99p and felt guilty. Half expected the seller to say "I'm not selling it for that" but no she was quite happy thank goodness.
I know I've had many disappointments from auctions in the past (which is why I tend to steer clear and use mostly BIN) but you just have to suck it up. Silly goose - her not you!Stop looking for answers....

I can't do anything more for a few hours as it hasn't been quite 7 days since payment yet . However, I have asked her to continue to correspond only thought the paypal system in future and as soon as the system allows me I will escalate this to a claim for item not received. So far thi smorning she has had some clothing items finish at less than a £1 with very low postage stated and she has another 3 items ending in the next hour or so, at least there will be money available when I put in my claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
