Subject to the map quality and how up-to-date it is, a SatNav will have all addresses on it.0

I think you will find that in places like the newer developments which effectively have their own road systems then it is all but impossible to pinpoint individual houses. I just got a new Garmin (Nuvi 265W with NT2009 maps) yesterday and in my development it thinks my house is on the right when it is on the left. When I put in my house it did ask for the post code followed by the house number but it cannot pinpoint it exactly.
Any Garmin sold from (I think) 15th October is entitled to a free upgrade to the 2009 maps (despite what Halfords say)0 -
Anyone who registers a newly bought Garmin satnav (or an old one that has never been registered before) on their website will be sent the latest maps on DVD in the post.
We recently registered my dad's 'old' C510 for him (which he'd owned for at least 2 years) and they sent him the latest maps in the post.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

My estate is 30 year old. How far away would you expect a sat nav with up-to-date maps to be from a house in a built up area? The nuvi 205 in Halfords (which they say has 2008 maps) was 200-300 yrds off.Any Garmin sold from (I think) 15th October is entitled to a free upgrade to the 2009 maps (despite what Halfords say)
and would Halfords be obliged to carry out the upgrade?0 -
Halfords wouldn't be obliged to do the upgrade - why should they? - that's something you do yourself with the DVD sent to you by Garmin. It's the same with all brand sof satnav which provide map updates.
The quality of the mapping isn't the fault of Garmin - it will be down to failures and slow work by OSNI, who provide mapping data to the manufacturers of mapping software (Navteq etc) who in turn provide the maps to the manufacturers of satnavs.
If the mapping is wrong, complain to OSNI:
http://www.osni.gov.uk/
If they take any notice, in a few years the mapping errors might be corrected
If your estate is 30 years old, then it may be that the roads on have not been adopted? Private roads are often not included on satnav mapping.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

What would be the standard cost of an upgrade? just so I know how much to add onto the Halfords price
Thanks for the link.0 -
Buy a new Garmin and register it. Garmin send you the latest map FREE if your satnav does not have the latest one.
Updates are around £40 otherwise. Same with most satnav brands (IF they provide updates at all).
TomTom have just launched a subscription service - you get an update free when you register (via download in the case of TomTom) and then can subscribe for an annual fee for updates.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

Would it be possible for you to post the Garmin link on this site

I've been reading online and viewing a few vids on youtube and it seems the Garmin tells you to turn left or right about 200 yrds before the turn, has any Garmin users noticed this? The Tom Tom seems to be better in this department by telling you that the turn is approaching and then directing you to turn left or right just a few yards from the turn, has any users compared the two devices on this matter?0
