Could anyone here offer advice on sat nav systems for use in Northern Ireland. All of the websites I have seen are for over the water. I would hate to spend a load of money on a system and then realise that the Northern ireland maps are useless. I have a budget of around £500 and havent a clue where to start looking for one of these - dealers would probably charge a fortune, what about Dixons or Currys? Any help much appreciated.

The only one I've seen with anything like decent coverage of Ireland (North & Republic) is CoPilot 5 - and it's a pricey beast.... ask over at https://www.pocketgps.co.uk if that's changed significantly..... but all of the others covered the single digit roads, N&S of the border - so good to get from Belfast to Dublin, but hopeless to get to somewhere like Cookstown (example)There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Apparently those with 'Navtech' maps are best for Northern Ireland. Think Currys have an offer one that has those for £269.0

I have Garmin Mapsource just over a year old and its totally useless outside of Belfast or Dublin. Most of the other software I have looked at is the same. The big names dont want to pay for mapping rights to sell to a very small customer base so they leave most of it out.

City Navigator Europe v8 DVD looks a bit better

Considering getting a GPS, but from what I've heard most in-car gps coverage for NI is ropey once you head outside Belfast.
Anyone know the GPS with the best maps for NI?I used to promote my band here...0 -

im also keen to hear views on this ... ideally i want street level for north and south ireland , all of uk , and perhaps europe too
the AA does one that claims to be street level for all of ireland but i read one review and it was fairly lukewarmI used to have a signature with links to the League Tables for good/bad shipping charges for Northern Ireland. But I have since learnt that this is against site rules - so they are no longer here! PM me if you need them0
