I am using Destinator V3 on my PDA. Coverage of NI does not exist above Antrim town and as far over as Limavady. Surprisingly the ROI is well covered right down to back-street level in some of the smaller towns, but little or no coverage in towns away from the major roads.
I do not know what the newer versions of Destinator are like. I have been told to avoid TomTom like the plague - I think it has NI coverage but none for the ROI.0 -
I finally bought the Garmin C510D from Halfords - NI coverage is spot on - took me all the way up to Portstewart with no trouble - knows all the back lanes too
Word of warning, dont be sucked in by the Traffic Alert functions (TMC) There are no GPS traffic info providers for Northern Ireland.
Trafficmaster "have no plans to provide the resources to obtain and disseminate traffic information for Northern Ireland."

I bought tomtom with a pda last year for travelling to europe by car and through England France and Spain it was superb, but back home it is dreadfull outside Belfast. I have now bought a Medion GoPal500 which has teh Navteq maps and it is fantastic for north and south and it wasn't expensive either.0

I've been trying out the new Destinator 6 on my PDA and I must say its 100% coverage north and south. It aslo has postcode seach function, so just type in postcode and house number and it takes you straight there!
Breathe of fresh air after all the other crap coverage systems ive used. Its using the Navteq 2006 Q1 maps. Destinator also covers all of western Europe for you travallers.0 -
Hi all, I know there have been a couple of sat-nav questions on here, but with Christmas approaching and the likelihood that many will consider these as presents, I thought I would raise the issue again.
I am looking for one with as close to 100% coverage in NI as possible - I am a new driver and my sense of direction is legendarily atrocious. So, does anyone have any recommendations, advice, or systems to avoid? And if you have one, does your sat-nav include "all" roads, or just main roads/motorways? Your thoughts would be great, thanks.

I have a Garmin and it seems fine to me - although I have nothing to compare it to. When I bought it in Halfords they said it was better for N.I. than Tom Tom. It shows my street and it has only been in existence for about 3 years.0

Garmin is by far the best for NI0

what about the tom tom 910 ?0

Garmin uses Navtec mapping which seems to give best coverage for NI.Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.0
