i have a dell pda with gps, the software is navteq and it has good detail. however it is not customisable like tomtom. perhaps navteq own brand might be more versatile.0

Has anyone got any experience on which make of SatNav gives the best mapping coverage for N.Ireland......or are they all much of a muchness?
Any help gratefully received.Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.0 -
Navtec maps seem the best. I'm using Route66 on my phone. So far the coverage is pretty good.Timmay!0

i have dell's proprietary sat nav on one of their pdas - it's made by navteq and the maps are pretty good. i also have tomtom for the pda and it's rubbish for ireland outside of belfast/dublin but it is better for across the water and europe0

As jetboy said Navteq maps are the best. Garmin use these, so the Nuvi's and Streetpilots should be a good choice. Most TomTom's use TeleAtlas which aren't good outside of the Greater Belfast Area, I think the TT Rider is the only exception
You can check coverage of Garmin GPS' from their website at http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/citynavEuro.jsp
then look for the link called Mapsource Map Viewer on the rightI used to promote my band here...0 -
I work all over belfast and ive had the problem of lack of full coverage with tomtom . Im now using destinator and it rocks , as far as i know the maps for destinator are via navteq . Whlist its not fancy it certainly does the job . Makro had a deal the other week with a pda that had destinator installed . Must say though i loved tomtom when i was at the cannes film fest last year ( brought me straight to mc donalds iin cannes :-)something missing0

Thanks for all your suggestions. NavTeq seems to come out as the best bet.
Has anyone got a good suggestion for a unit which has this mapping and does not cost a fortune?Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.0 -

Bought a Garmin C310 from Halfords for £199. It has Navteq maps of UK and ROI. Used it on trips to Tipperary and Kerry, very pleased with it. Also used it on an extended trip to France via Dover/Calais. Surprised to find it provided excellent coverage as far south as Nantes in the Vendee.0

as above, the Garmin units are a good bet - You could even go for the i3 which is going for £99-£129 for a basic unit. You can even use the speed camera database from https://www.pocketgpsworld.com as it has speedcams for NII used to promote my band here...0
