BTW, I have no idea how to even start a poll, let alone change one! :D

    Sorry!
  • Im another voter of both if you have the choice. My mum would love to help out more with my children, but i know she would be totally exhausted doing a full week, and i think at her age her & dad deserve thier time !

A combination of both would be great.

CTC would possibly help to pay for the nursery (depending on income) but you would not get any help, obviously, with a relative.

I have no idea if finances are important, but just thought I would add it in

I had my two at Nans (MIL). Its something I regret. Nan loves them to bits and I knew they were totally safe, but Nan did nothing with them. No books, no outings nothing. It was the TV or town/tesco. At least at a nursery they would have had the interaction of other kids and a structured day. At the time it was the cheaper option for us.
  • There is an add poll option somewhere but i couldnt tell you where. Just so you know my parents arent too old at the minute, mums late 40s and dads early 50s so they are "young" grand parents. Not that that should make a difference lol.

Oddly enough my mum offered to do it, another option is the split the time between the 2 sets of parents as my parents and partners parents live in the same village. but there are issues with my partners parents.
  • both too!

grandparents need a life too so whilst they give more "homely" care it does leave you in the lurch if they are ill, go on hols, want to go out somewhere.

half and half means that there may be the opportunity to increase the amount of time lo spends at nursery for a short time if needed without it coming as a huge shock.

  • Another one in favour of both. There have been several studies which show babies socialization skills benefit more from one on one contact early in life and too much time in nurseries is detrimental to their social development (the emphasis here is on too much time, not nurseries are bad). Nurseries do present a great opportunity to build up the immune system and as the baby gets older provide playmates.

  • I do think my mum gets a little bored at home all day on her own. Also there is another thing which I just thought of, although my mum offered, my dad works night 4 on and 4 off. So having a baby might not be welcomed. Might ave to talk to my mum about that
  • hmm,
well ive have been working 2 full days a week since my son was 13months old. hes now 3 and a half. he has always been at nursery for those 2 full days (7.50am-6pm) and has loved every minute of it! its really good for kids i think to interact and learn social skills, whereas at my mums hes only really got her to talk to bless her!!

however i have now asked to work 4 full days a week for money really! and so my son will now go to nursery tues/thurs/fri and he'll go to my mums on mondays. he LOVES going to my mums to see my younger brothers and stuff, and i dont think i would really want him at nursery full time or at least 4 days a week. but my mum doesnt really want to have him 2 days a week cos shes getting her life back now me and my siblings are able to look after ourselves!so i think ive got the best of both worlds really.

    i hope this helps a little!!:o
