OS Daily for Friday 19th September 2008

Hi,This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Good morning, everyone. I know it's early but I woke up at around 3am and couldn't get back to sleep.

Yesterday afternoon my computer well and truly crashed and there was nothing I could do about it. I had to wait until DS1 (the techie in the family) could come round in the evening. Bless him, he was full of cold so I told him not to come round but he insisted. He had never come across the problem before and initiallu thought that I would not be able to get back online because my modem was not talking to my PC (too technical for me!). Anyway, he spent an hour on and then had to go because he had brought DGS with him and it was past her bedtime but whatever he did finally worked. I lost quite a lot of stuff so spent the rest of the evening locating what I could. This is really why I couldn't get back to sleep - I couldn't wait to check that the PC would still work!

I can't believe how worried and cross I was at the thought of not having access to the internet, especially to MSE, and I am so grateful to DS1 for his time and perserverence. I now have to get used to the different screen. MSE is completely different now so heaven knows what I was operating on before!

DGS was so good last night; because DS1 and I were busy with the PC she spent the time with DH; she's devoted to him. He had left his tool box in the hall and they spent an hour and a half going through it because she wanted to know how everything worked. She's only five years old but was genuinely interested in practically everything in the tool box. She was delighted when DH showed her how to put a screw into a wall plug. I think maybe she will become one of his subcontractors when she grows up!

Anyway, I've just read your post from last night, Smoky; sending massive (((hugs))) to you. I can't believe it's six months already since your dear Eric passed away. It must have been a difficult day. I think you have done so well in such a short time; I'm full of admiration for you.

(((Hugs))) also to PenPin, Jayward, Candygirl's Mum and Dad, Essex-girl's Dad, Beth and her family and all who need one.

Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:

The weather is supposed to really good for a few days now so I hope we all get the same - blue skies, bright sun and some real warmth!

I have to do my food shopping this morning and pay some bills but will have to spend the afternoon updating things on the PC. I can't wait to get it all back to normal!

Hope everyone has a great day. I'm off to put the kettle back on!

Morning Kathy and all who follow,

One more sleep to go :j

I`ve just spent the last hour in the kitchen doing things that should have been done last night mostly.
The wm is now on and so is the dw, the dough is out of the bm and has proved enough so the first batch is in the remoska making rolls with another batch to follow in a few minutes.

I shall put the bm on later today and i need to spend a long time ironing at some point as most of the clothes that need packing also need ironing as the weather lately has meant that they have taken an age to dry.

The first case is packed and all the houndie things are sorted out, i just need to pick up a repeat prescription for the oldie and then they`re sorted, i`m taking dad to the supermarket later too so any last minute bits of shopping will be done then and the rest of today will be housew*rk and packing.

I shall spend a few minutes catching up with yesterdays thread and then i`ll hop in the shower, catch up later peeps :D

    Have a lovely day everyone.

Must be something in the air mioliere. I woke around 3.30 and couldn't go back to sleep, so came on here instead.

I've put the BM on, and taken some fruit out the freezer for smoothies when DDs wake up, and I'm now on my second cup of tea, contemplating doing the ironing. Only cotemplating it mind :D

I ordered some wind up lanterns off amazon, and received a despatched email yesterday, so I'm hoping they arrive today.

Going to catch up with yesterday's thread and have a browse.

    Morning.

Last day today before 4 days off. SO I hope to play catch up and leave my desk in shape shape fashion.
Nothing much planned for the days off. I think we might go to Penzance on Saturday, it's onyl a few quid on the train and we will get fed by the sis in law.
I need to get a few jobs done asround the house, but they can wait until next week.
Daughter is off up to Cambridge to visit her BF who has a half day leave from his army training. She is all excited, so her mood had changed. She was a bit testy after he left....
Sorted out my mortgage yesterday. I got 5.64% with Nationwide on a 3 yr tracker. NO FEE. So that is about the best I can do I think. I was with them anyway so got the no fee deal. I am banking on the rate dropping next year, so I did not want to fix it. If it goes up....well I had better start getting some overtime.
Well not much else to tell... weather is good, but winter is coming....

    Cheers

    Morning all,

Have just caught up on days of posts, Congrats JANNYANNIE, Managed to find the clip BARGAIN RZL, you looked lovely and so happy.
SMOKY, Sorry to hear you're having a bad time, there will be so many sad anniversary days, the 1st birthday, 1st holiday, places you go and think last time I was here I had Eric and so on. It will be painfull but you will get through, you're a strong lady even though you don't think so. My heart goes out to you. Re the damp patches, how about a star chart, they get a star every day that they don't wee and at the end of the week/month they get an extra treat.

Well my day went well y/day I managed to lay the floor tiles, all 142 off them after having to scrape the floor, sweep and unibond it. I Satinwooded the door and skirting boards (had to take one off and replace with new as it had gone rotten) put up last lot of shelves and 20 large hooks drilled in the walls to hang ironing board, garden stuff, power tools etc. Will fit the blind today and put the last coat of paint on ceiling and walls. Hopefully start to put all of the stuff back in there along with the TD, freezer and all electric kitchen appliances. There's some render broken on the outside so have to cement that to make it waterproof. I can vaugely see a tiny light at the end of this long tunnel.

I had 3 pallets of patio slabs delivered y/day to go in the dog run we made a while back. The Labs are diging so many holes and getting muddy so once the slabs are layed that will put and end to DD2 having to clean them before letting them in the house. That's tomorrows job, I will have to get handyman to help as I can't manage it on my own.

Thank you for being concerned about the amount of work I have taken on and I promise I WILL slow down next week. I'm always on the go and find it hard to stop.

DH is finding it difficult not being able to do anything, as he is the same as me, we get stuck into a project and feel very satisfied when standing back and admiring our work. He has helped by doing the pots/veg ready for when I get in, also DW, wm and a bit of dusting although he never picks anything up but just dusts around things. Why he thinks I have stuck books, orniments etc to surfices I don't know. Bless, at least it's something he can do.

Right then, another coffee then off I go.

Special Hugs CANDYGIRL,DD, DDAD AND MUM. SMOKY, JACKI O, MRS MIX and anyone in need.

  • Good morning all

Mioliere it's amazing how much we depend on PCs these days, isn't it? I dont' know how I would cope if mine died on me. Glad your DS was able to fix it for you and I hope he feels better soon.
Sunnyday hope you have a great holiday.
pipkin love the sound of those smoothies. I have some yoghurt and fruit in the fridge that needs using. Guess what I will be making DS and DD?? Thanks for that. :D

    :hello: aussie and twink. (((hugs)))

I haven't been keeping up with the threads this week as I have been busy trying to get to grips with this new Arts course I start very soon. It's going to take up a lot of my time so I won't be a regular here anymore :( but I will try to pop in as often as I can.

So, ((((hugs)))) to all who need them - especially Smokybabe, Candygirl and parents, Betheebee and family, Essex-girl and DDad, Pen-Pin and anyone else I have inadvertently missed.

:j to those with something to celebrate.

DS fell badly playing basketball in school yesterday and twisted his ankle. It's not broken, just badly wrenched but I wonder if he will be able to walk on it today. So I may find myself having an unexpected day off today.

DD was very naughty yesterday and said she had washed all the dishes. On my way to bed last night I noticed that the sink was full of *unwashed* dishes. So, I will be waking her up 15 minutes early to make time for her to do them this morning. (does that make me an evil mum?? ;):D )

I've checked my online banking and my e-mail accounts and I'm now going to put the kettle on for some tea. We had a beautiful day here yesterday so I got the washing up to date and managed to get my kitchen curtains washed and line-dried too. :j I also managed to de-clutter one of the worktops so my kitchen looks bigger too. Will try and get that finished this weekend.

BM needs to go on later but I already have tonight's dinner cooked (leftover chilli and rice) so that will only take a few minutes to reheat.

Have a fabulous Friday all. xx

Morning! Early start for me! Woke up from a nightmare shaking - I was lost and wandering around Picadilly, ended up in a one way street heading to nowhere! Not the best way to begin the day lol!

Anyway gives me time for tea and toast in bed before the troops get up!

oh left v early to catch a plane, so his pressies will have to wait till this evening, just as well cos I didn't find anything yesterday!!!

Made bread before bed, so will just need to do normal dw and wm and sort out yoghurt and packed lunches. Need to sort through some piles of clothes today that need passing on amongst dds, then put them in the correct person's drawers, oh fun!

Macaroni cheese for tea, kids love it, will do hm garlic bread, best get bm filled with french stick dough then I guess, and salad with honey and mustard dressing, yum!

Have a good day all xx

    Big hugs to Smokey,
Big Wave to Amie399, I was wondering where you's gone.
Beth please slow down, I get tired reading about all you've done.
Off to work soon, but TFI Friday, I need to do some catching up over the weekend.
    Have a good day everyone.

(((HUGS))) Smokey - I haven't had a chance to read yesterdays post but will try and get on at lunch time. I really hope that being able to post on this thread and know that your virtual friends are here for you gives you some comfort during these difficult times. Although I'm not sure I believe that time is a healer, I think that the first year is going to be the toughest.
