Message for Gordon Brown!

the anti-social problems we are facing today within our own country are a result of the seeds planted during the 1980's...all those problem kids/adolescents running around at the moment, well they are the off-spring of the kids who were royally shafted by the Tories in the 1980's.
.... how does the government 'shafting' parents cause problem kids? Surely its the parenting not the government!?A blonde... cleverly disguised as a Brunette.......;)0 -
Sadly it doesn't work like that. Personal responsibility goes out the window when you get the spending bug, when big companies tell you it's ok to have a credit card in every colour of the rainbow.
The financial system should work properly to stop people being able to have dozens of credit cards and loans. But it doesn't. People being stupid and enjoying spending all that money and then not taking responsibilility for their debt is wrong.
The government has given out the message that the economy has been doing well whilst people run up trillions in debt on plastic, take out silly liar loans.
They've not done the things they should to stop this mess. Gordon is to blame as chancellor for not realising the good times were fake. The emporers new clothes have just been exposed for the fakes they are.
rubbish, people should take responsibility for their actions. whether the economy is good or not, if you personally don't have any money yet go out and but a TV for £1000 on a credit card then you are stupid. if you take out a 125% mortgage on something that is not guaranteed to increase in value then you are just foolish.
the government is not to blame, people's own stupidity is. they should take an intelligent look at their own situation before actually taking up offers to increase their debt just so they can buy playstations, tvs, latest clothes etc etc
we live in a boom/bust society - it was going to happen, whether we had a Tory or Labour government. The Tories couldn't prevent the on in the 80's - they couldn't have prevented this one either.
i agree the financial institutions should be more responsible...but they are in the business of making money, if they start being responsible and deny spend-thrifts vast amounts of credit then they are cutting off one of their main sources of income (haha, that bit them on the bum didn't it!). it's like asking a drug-dealer to act responsibly when selling drugs!0 -

er...government policies affect the society we live in, bad policies creates problems which can affect how a person then lives their life, which can then reach down through generations to come. it's not rocket science.0 -

Well in that is the theory a whole generation, and everyone in that generation would be affected. That isn't the case!
The behaviour of children is followed on from the discipline from the parents! I saw three lads kicking the living daylights out of someones garage door, they obviously don't understand right from wrong - there is no 'fear factor' anymore. If I had done that when I was a kid I would have been terrified of my parents giving me a good hiding! and the police finding out.... I would have been mortified, so I would know not to do it in the first place!. That isn't because of a government policy its because my parents taught me right from wrong!A blonde... cleverly disguised as a Brunette.......;)0 -

They're not private companies though allowing independent thought,. They are caretakers of services for local people.
There are so many insane jobs at the councils that it needs sorting out.
Frontline staff are paid peanuts yet do some of the most important work.0 -
Just been out for lunch (I work in Manchester City Centre), the Labour conference starts tomorrow. I have never seen as many police in all my life. Gordon Brown needs the police and they are everywhere, but when the great tax paying public need police protection ....... its at least an hours wait for one. If they deem you important enough.

no...you miss the point entirely.
some policies (and the indirect results of policies) only badly affect some sections of society, and from those people some have the ability to deal with life's curveballs better than others. so it wouldn't affect a whole generation directly at all, but it would impact (as it is now) on everyone within society through anti-social behaviour.0 -

Therein lies the problem. Local authority managers are financially motivated to over staff. They employ 10,000 people when a manager in a competetive industry would be expected to do a better job with 3,000 people. Spending money badly does not require skill. Having met one or two of these senior public sector people, they would struggle to get more than £30K in the private sector.0 -

Fair enough, I kind of see your point but I see the responsibility of anti social behaviour lies with childrens parents. I don't like lots of the policies (in fact only the 10p tax bracket thing was good for me!). Doesn't mean I would go out and be anti social about it, (Damn my parents for teaching me right and wrong - i'd love to give a few of these teenagers a good slap
