And your stupid remark about education speaks volumes. The only reason results are better than they have ever been is because they've DUMBED DOWN!! :rotfl: ANY idiot can get a degree these days - and quite frankly, with the lack of jobs available now - a degree is about as useful as a chocolate teapot!

I was in education for 33 years and I can assure you that most students work harder than I ever did whilst I was at Grammar School. It saddens me to see older persons like yourself denigrating the considerable achievements of young people, simply because certain newspapers find it lucrative to feed your nostalgia for 'the good old days.'

I would agree, however, that we are far too fond of demanding high qualifications for jobs which don't really require them, and of looking down upon skills, trades and anything that carries the dreaded 'vocational' label.

Results are better because teachers are pretty good at responding to the league table challenge, though left to their own devices they might put more weight on those things less easily quantified which make a school truly happy & successful.

And yes, I taught in a very successful school, whatever measure you'd like to use.
  • why cant we have a law where if a party fails to bring about what ever the manifest that got them elected says, they all get kicked out and are not allowed to run for another 10 years?

Fed up with all the lies and spin every party uses to get elected then simply back tracking when elected :(
  • ii think gordon brown is getting a really hard time for what is simply the financial cycle coming around AGAIN!

GB did make a huge song and dance about "no more boom and bust" and saying he wouldn't "allow house prices to get out of control". Hoist by his own petard, I reckon.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • As for the NHS - it's now almost on a par with a third world country. We have MRSA; contract cleaners who don't know how to clean; doctors dishing out cheap inferior alternatives for regular medicines, people living in Postcode Lotteries needlessly dying of cancer because of the cutbacks......and as for your STUPID remark about private patients shortening

I take it you have never been anywhere near a third world hospital!

The NHS is pretty damn good, to be honest.

I am sure exams were easier when I did them (1993 for GCSE, and 1995 for A level) than when my parents did them. I looked at my mother's O level papers for Latin and German, which we both did, and they were an awful lot harder than the GCSEs I did.
