Message for Gordon Brown!

I have no confidence in this government (and I never voted for them either!) and Gordon Brown is clearly inept.

Reading through these posts' it's evident that people are at breaking point. So what do you suggest?

We have the:

CREDIT CRUNCH
REDUNDANCIES
UNEMPLOYMENT RISING
INFLATION
PROPERTY CRASHING
FUEL BILLS RISING
FOOD PRICES RISING
GAS BILLS RISING
ELECTRICITY BILLS RISING
COUNCIL TAX RISING
NHS CRUMBLING
EDUCATION CRUMBLING
CRIME RISING
CUTBACKS IN THE POLICE

The country has never been in such a sorry state!

So what exactly should be done?

I know they had riots in the 80's about the Poll Tax............and that was without the internet!

So why aren't people doing more to get their voice heard? Becasue it seems that the government isn't listening!

I don't know what the answer is PP but I can tell you that I've been around long enough to know that whichever policitical party is in power the story is always the same - they make promises that they will do this, that and the other and their government will be the best and "cleanest" ever. Then they all go back on their word, and eventually sleaze seeps through and then you find out that the MPs are fiddling left, right and centre to avoid taxes and claim outrageous expenses etc.

When we have a government full of honest MPs with an honest leader who all truly have the right attitude to do what's best for the population as a whole, then things might get better. But I honestly think that's a pipe dream.

I bet that for all the items on your list there is someone who can put dates to when they all happened during previous governments. Depressing isn't it?

Yes it is depressing. And I'm sure someone will pipe up with a statistic from way back - but the country NOW has never been in such a mess as it is now!

Who voted for these loons anyway?:o

It's a recession. After many years of postponing it with interest rate cuts, it had to come.

Batten down the hatches & ride it out.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

People generally dont vote for governments in a parliamentary democracy. they vote for whomever is their choice as the local MP.

I actually dont agree with the governmetn having EVERYTHING to do with this, more that there is a global capitalist system to which we are all entrenched .
    CREDIT CRUNCH - as above
REDUNDANCIES- bound to happen, after boom comes bust
    UNEMPLOYMENT RISING - as above
    INFLATION- as above
PROPERTY CRASHING - should never have been allowed to boom then it wouldnt bust, shame so many people dont see that
FUEL BILLS RISING- inevitable- totally inevitable , that we are at the mercy of buying in power, it will certainly get worse particularly if international relations continue as they have been - certainly dont think the tories wqould do any better
FOOD PRICES RISING- wonder what global warming/ flash flooding has contributed. A lot. My dad works in import, there is a WORLD shortage of food, but hell we'll just continuie to waste waste waste
    GAS BILLS RISING- as above
    ELECTRICITY BILLS RISING- as above
COUNCIL TAX RISING- if wages have to rise, and we all need more services , ageing population, decent homes, we have to pay for it. I personally dont think council tax is that high for what you get for the money.
NHS CRUMBLING- is it, increasing services everywhere , more drugs, better equipment, shorter waiting times, plus now more and more people making qs shorter with private health care - comes as standard for so many companies these days
EDUCATION CRUMBLING- results the best ever, more people going to uni whenever
CRIME RISING - is it? Depends where you look and how you look at the figures.
CUTBACKS IN THE POLICE- where? In london certainly there are more officers, and they are always recruiting for front & back room staff.

Could be worse. I find not reading the mail helps.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Many of the problems were caused by bad decisions under Thatcher, such as selling off the utilities, privatising public transport (And Major for the rail mess), selling council houses, the 'dash for gas', spending oil revenues on tax cuts for the wealthy etc. All were popular as the tabloids sheepishly supported them, and some individuals made a short-term gain. The next problems will be paying for PFI deals (Off balance sheet), the vast waste of public spending and the effects of student debt.

we have ten years of this party and then 10 years of that other party (and 20 years of the third party saying go back and prepare for govt....lol) and 20 years of you and me taking a beating and keeping everything together.

in the end there is no reason for either party to really change anything once they get snarled up in the machinery of govt.

Ok the blame the Tories excuse is wearing thin now.

Labour have had 10 years in which they have splurged a vast amount of tax payers cash. They have raised the tax burden enormously to do this.

They instigated lax lending which has led to this boom and now bust, despite saying the exact opposite.

The economy was recovering when they got into power.

They didn't reverse any of the policies the Tories put in place, the major one that springs to mind is not allowing councils to build and own houses, this is going to be hugely significant with repossessions rising.

A friend of mine has a great saying which is "you expect to be ripped of by the Tories but this is !!!!ing Labour."
  • ii think gordon brown is getting a really hard time for what is simply the financial cycle coming around AGAIN!

its not like this didn't happen under any previous government.

I note you are posting this is the house buying forum so i am guessing you are really bitter about the price of your house and how much you are going ot lose from its value and are hoping for support form people in a similar situation.

The current credit crunch comes from the property market going POP! property owners are the ones to blame, not gordon brown. Property prices are only dictated by the price people are willing to pay.

everyone knows how much money they have and how much they can afford to spend. If you push yourself to the absolute limit to buy a house then its your own fault not the bank, not the PM. Its the banks job to sell you a mortgage, its up to you if you take their maximum offer.

If people had just seen sense and refused to pay the asking prices for houses then the prices would not have risen anywhere near the levels just before the bang.
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits
