Ways to stop overseas sales calls discussion

Going back to the very first post I just want to say that I couldn't care less that there's a human being on the end of the phone just doing their job. Their job involves annoying me and I can be reasonably certain that they're aware of this fact. In some cases, their job involves blatantly attempting to scam me and once again I am reasonably certain that they're aware of this fact.
If somebody knowingly takes a job that involves causing irritation and potentially worse to others then as far as I'm concerned that person doesn't deserve any sympathy and I should not be expected to consider or care about their "feelings" and be able to view them in any way I see fit.
The only thing that actually stops me from telling these people what I really think of them is the fact that it is illegal to do so.0 -
We are getting lots of international calls.
We have caller id so we dont answer them, but they are annoying.
BT have told me they cannot block all incoming international calls on our line. This I find ridiculous, surely its not rocket science to do that?
Do any other telephone providers allow you to block all incoming international calls?
TIA,
Zebs0 -
I am tempted by Truecall.
But do you have to pay per month for certain features?
All I want is to stop international calls and let everything else through0 -
Got a call this weekend from a guy from India pretending to try and help me fix my computer. When I told them to !!!!!! off, they called again and again and again. The landline provider - Primus - was utterly unhelpful and I would actually prefer talking to the scammer than to Primus customer service, if I had the choice again. Apparently, there is nothing they can do. Or want to do.:money:0

Most of the cold calls I get are from BT sales."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

TPS is nothing more than a free sucker list number to these foreign call centres.
I think one method is simply to have your phone answering machine set to short answer.... the old notion that if it's something important they will leave a message is true. With caller display of course you will be able to see whether it's "international" or in most cases someone you know. Proper offical bodies like the Police or council will leave a message.
However this type of marketing should be and must be made illegal and stopped at source by the phone companies. BT are indeed some of the worst offenders... simple answer is threaten to move to another phone provider ... BT are still the worlds most expensive phone provider and I can't understand why anyone still stays with them!0 -

The implication of that is that sufficient people who have taken the trouble to sign up for TPS are actually sucker enough to fall for calls that slip through the net to make it worth while positively listing and calling them. Not just not bothering to screen at all.
Sounds rather dubious to me.0 -
We shouldn't have pay for Truecall , our landline service providers should be provideing us with some sort of protection against these criminal's because lets face it, if you are registered with TPS they are breaking the law. Our landline service providers don't give a hoot about us and that fact that alot of these number withheld international calls are at all hours of the night and weekend and can often end up with the caller swearing at us and using the f word. You can be sure if I started phoning people up and calling them some of the names I'm been called ( the worst one I've been called starts with 'mother' you can guess the rest, totally discus ting behavior ) I would have the police at my door within a week and would end up in court so why are these so called company's allowed to call us up are swear at us ! we all need to keep on at our landline service providers about the issue . The fact they say they can't do anything is total poppycock of course they can block these numbers they just don't want to because at the end of the day each one of these calls in money in their pocket. I shall be phoning my landline provider again today and threatening to leave again untill they protect me from these criminals , I see it as invasion of my home and I'm sick to the back teeth of it , they always call when I'm having my dinner or in the bath and it's my landline providers duty to protect and look after their customers and we all need to remind them of this fact. I will never pay for a service like True -call when I firmly believe that my landline provider should be providing it anyway. We are the paying customers not these criminals !0

It may sound dubious but look at it like this:- Many of the sales calls, offers to fix your computer scams etc. are originating from foreign calls where TPS supposed barring has no legal standing.
- Now anyone that signs to TPS has obviously experienced being on some form of contact list compiled from various sources but by signing to TPS who give out this new list of all such customers for sellers NOT to call they actually have a more complete free list that can be used by foreign based call centres or companies.
- These foreign based call centres scammers cannot be sanctioned even if TPS & offcom had any power. (which in reality they don't).
- TPS is in fact quite a good complete and untraceable sucker list where the original various lists have combined together into one.

So who is going to take a householder to court for not answering their phone??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
