I thought you meant £145 EACH per night! ie the hotel was charging you £870 for the 3 nights you were staying there! Was frankly staggered hotels had gone up so much! How do you know yours won't propose then?!

I didn't post until NIM had broken the news to you, couldn't face letting you all down!

God no, it's like £280 for two of us for three nights, breakfast included would have taken this up to something like £340  but I'm sure there'll be a nice cafe doing coffee and croissants for 3 euro or so!

I just don't think he will, we're not even living together, haven't been together THAT long, and haven't really spoken about it other than in an offhand, 'when we're old and married...' kind of way. Also he was with his ex for 5 years and they were never engaged so I don't really think it's a priority for him.

But his ex wasn't right for him, so all that that shows is he had good judgement not to ask!

When are you going? £280 for the 3 nights is good, NIM and I have been looking at the £42 return flights, could be very tempted if you come back raving on how great the hotel is!

Thanks for that, that's what my best friend said but I have real issues with boyfriends and their exes. Maybe he will after all then, we'll see.

We go on 6th June, I'm not holding out too much hope for the hotel, they're always better in the pictures aren't they? But it's just a place to get our heads down really - we're in PARIS why would we want to be in the hotel? As long as it's fairly close to the centre so there's somewhere nearby for a drink on the night that's all that matters. When we went to Prague the hotel had no bar, like this one doesn't, but it was out in the middle of nowhere and too cold to be trawling around the city in the dark so we ended up sitting in the hotel room watching CNN every night!

Hello and welcome back! Good to hear about your hols (despite no proposal!) as I've often wondered what Egypt would be like. I feel the same about beach/resort hols, but a fab opportunity to spend lots of quality time with OH :) Are your mum & dad pleased to have you home?

The ING offer came in a letter from them - I had an account with them when they were dodgy Icelandic bank and they've sent me a promotion code that can be used 3 times - might be worth phoning them up and asking if they can offer you anything for recommending friends.

Good luck with all the ebaying - sounds like it's back to strict MSE already! x

NIM and I have come back with a lust for the simple life. We're having a Big Talk tonight about whether to pay off all the remaining debt with our savings, to simplify things. We'd loose a bit of interest but it would be a huge weight off us, especially with the CC having a balance again and us paying interest on that too. It's likely NIM will be doing a MSc with the OU in Sept, which is about £3.5k, so simplifying things before we have to start working out how to pay for that sounds really appealing.

It's about as far away as Newcastle to London, so it is a very hefty day trip, if you're in the area we could have gone for about £20!

Honestly, I'm a little dissapointed too! My claddagh is looking very dull and scratched and I could do with something new and shiny for that finger :p

To be honest I'd be tempted to do that too. I know it would mean starting from scratch with the savings but at least any figures you're looking at are all positive ones, any ebay you do will be to add to your total not bring it down... Personally I'd feel a lot 'lighter' and happier.

Exactly, and we'd still have nearly £1000 in savings, so wouldn't feel so bad. I just am sick of having all these complicated 'what goes where' thoughts, when if all the debt was gone it would be a lot easier. First £500 a month to regular savers, and open an ISA for overflow savings. Budgeted saver account for holidays and saver account for cars (tax, insurance, MOTs, services etc) and that should be about it. Easy!
