Aren't you only part time Cinny? Couldn't you do the course and keep working the same hours? Give yourself some seed money for moving out/opening the bookies! But I think its a great idea to get some more qualifications.
NIM has been offered the job - starting next week. Only temporary and 2 days a week, but the hours are such that he can still work at the call centre. He's going to drop the saturdays at the call centre, but still means he'll bring in an extra £30 a week. Plus we get all weekend together, which is going to be nice!
We've decided we are going to pay off the CC, family debt and OD with savings and just simplify things. However we're going to do it on payday as on payday I'll know exactly how overdrawn I am. We need to save about £3600 by September for NIMs MSc fees, so I really feel its a case of house and fees, and thats enough balls to juggle!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

So glad a good time was had by good and great news about the job NIM :T
Hope the luck continues for you both xxLet's start again (really need a kick up the bum now) :wall:Virgin CC £9793.710 -

You're back for minutes and my mind is boggled by your money lark Dinah, sounds like a good plan paying off your debts with savings. Martin will be proud!
Well the up side of the accounts course is that 1- It'll be paid by the company and 2 - I'll get paid for the hours I'm at college. So I'm not really loosing out! Will have a talk with Dad when he's home tomorrow.
Right, off around the other boards (going out of my comfort zone!) try and find some money making ideas and hopefully some dinner vouchers for Friday.0 -
Hi Dinah! I've missed you, it's been quiet around here! Gladto hear the holiday was nice, I don't really know if I fancy Egypt, if the people are anything like they were in Tunisia (pushy and touchy and horrible!) I want to stay well away! Glad NIM got the job! Go NIM!!!
I had a job interview today, I think it went quite well, the guy said he'll let me know tomorrow afternoon if I've got it so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed! Not sure about the figures he gave me, I think they get paid weekly and if the figure he gave me was before tax then it'd be a fair pay cut, but if it is after tax I'll be laughing! Will have to check that! I hope if I do get it my company will still let me take voluntary redundancy considering my job is technically 'safe' now although it hasn't been confirmed in writing... another thing to check! I could really do with the redundancy money, it will be a nice little sum, have promised OH a holiday to America if it works out!
I agree that you should pay off your debts with savings Dinah, it'll take a big weight off and then all your money can go to savings and you'll have thousands saved up in no time!
Cinny, I think you should do a course, definitely! I think you should do baking, then you should do accounts- all working towards your lovely little cafe on the sea front!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
:T Well done NIM, sounds like a fab job too, lucky you!
So will that be all your debt paid off then Dinah? Will your grandad let you pay him back early??
Cinny I think that's a great idea to do something to challenge yourself a bit, tho I don't think you need any help on the baking front!
ROTE, I often think that MS sounds like a lot of hassle, so much is when youre trying to get DF - daily clicks and so on, but it all counts I suppose. And I guess it's like a penance for getting ourselves into the mess in the first place!
I have made a couple of decisions tonight which are sort of bad but I feel a lot hapier now I've decided on them.
1) I'm abandoning the Channel Challenge. I got there tonight to find that the price as gone up by 10p, obviously to fund the council's Under 16s And Over 60s Go Free initiative, so I'm basically paying more to have less room to swim in and be splashed and jumped on more (by the kids, not the pensioners!) I love swimming but I'm not enjoying it at all at the minute, I'm coming home annoyed at having to dodge in an out of people, rather than relaxed from a good workout, and I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth because I'm only staying in the watr half an hour. So I'm not going to be a martyr to it. I am however going to go for an induction at the gym at work so I know how to use all the equipment properly, it's only £6 a month and I can go over lunchtime so it's not eating into my evenings either, hurrah!
2) I'm going to halt my savings til June payday. I'm totally skinted at the minute with trying to make up the £9k for the ISA and have lately been scraping my way to the end of the month, and I don't see how I can continue to save at this rate whilst paying for holidays, car tax, etc which are all due. I never really break into my savings anyway so it won't hurt to not have any for a few weeks (once money's in my ISA it's no longer counted). The naughtiest thing: I'm going to buy the lovely walking coat I've seen tomorrow, on my OD, because I want to wear it on Friday for Scafell Pike and can't afford it out of this month's pay. I'll pay it straight back next Friday when I get paid though, promise!
Ahh, that's better. Sorry for the long ramble but I feel better for explaining myself, very cathartic indeedRight off to dry my hair before I catch my death x
ETA- just read your post Cin - getting paid to do the course and its free? What have you got to lose?!

Sounds like a good idea to me Dinah about paying off the debts with your savings. And knowing you, it wont take long for you to build the savings back up!!
