The ultimate incentive to get debt free, can I do it by New Years?

Definitely! I know that different things are important to different people though and I'm sure people would say if I was really serious about becoming DF I could be more strict. Which is true, but I'd be totally miserable... I'm working on the theory that I may have debts for an extra 6 months or so, but I'll be 100% happier while I'm paying them off.
I'm still in awe of the way you've tackled your debts, but it wouldn't work for me for a number of reasons. I guess that's why I'm spending the next fortnight in rainy Brighton while you're cuddling camels in the sunshine! :rotfl:
I've been really happy paying it all off, have appreciated my free time more, and can look forward to getting married (don't think NIM will propose until I'm DF, even if he does hint a bit!)/buying a house/having kids where before I didn't feel I could look forward to these things. Know I'm not technically debt free yet, however if we had to, I could pay off all remaining debt with the house savings. I really like a challenge, and I feel a huge amount of achievement for managing it so quickly. I just wanted to 'move on' to the rest of my life as quickly as possible.

Just about to ring my Grandpa and tell him if he's in. I don't think I can wait until Friday, I've got the excited bike shakes!
Thanks Poddle, I think I only had normal birthdays untilI was 12, then they went a bit odd!
And of course you deserve big posh shoes for your wedding! I could never spend big on shoes, I think Clarks cost a lot! Nevermind £180!!
Woop, just done 10,000 steps on the treadmill, time to go clean my room!0 -
Yay Cinny! Get yourself on that Pashley! I'm very happy for you!
What are the shoes like you got for 'only' £180? I need a bit of shoe !!!!!!! Considering how much I love posh expensive shoes I don't think I own any that cost more than £100, well, one pair of £130 boots but I've had them for 5 years, my Mum bought me them and boots don't count! I think that I 'deserve' (;))fab shoes for my wedding considering I've never really splashed out a crazy amount of money on some frivolous shoes!
You know I can't even remember who they are by! I can describe the location of the shop.... but I can't remember the name of the company ever. Fairly nice shoe shop, stand alone shops, quite a lot of black and glass and mahogany inside.... erm..... but the shoes themselves are off greeny-blue petrol colour soft leather, two very thick straps across the front creating a peep toe, bit of a platform, dark wood stacked heels, ankle straps, just really really nicely cut!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Clarks does cost a lot! I own a lot of shoes admittedly, some should probably be sold I reakon, but the cheapest my 'proper' (read heeled) shoes were is sort of the £60 from Next, and they still fit, so don't really want to! Think I will try to pick 5 pairs to sell when I get back (will probably forget!)Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

You have done amazingly well Dinah! I'm sure you'll feel amazing once it's all gone and you can turn the page on that stage of your life and start looking forwards. Just imagine how much extra money you'll have when you're not paying bills, your house deposit will be reached in no time!:j
ETA: Clarks is bloomin' expensive! Most of my shoes are New Look specials, it doesn't matter if you only wear them twice if they cost £20!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
I'm talking Clarks discount! £25 for my t-bar work shoesies! Then the rest are Asos, primark or matalan.
Right, best get moving. Have a nice afternoon ladies, and have a great holiday Dinah if I don't get back on before you go!0 -

I have really really narrow feet, so find a lot of the more value shoes just don't fit me, clarks is too wide too, absolutely no hope of fitting into new look either! at £20 for a pair of shoes if you wear them twice its £10 a wear, my £180 I must have worn at least £50 so far, so I can argue that they're good value!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I think my £130 boots have worked out at about a penny a wear so they were good value!
Luckily I can wear value shoes and they tend to make up for the pricier shoes I wear i.e. I have a pair of £60 shoes that I've worn 3 times so £20 a wear... I've got some New Look ones for £20 and worn them loads, definitely got my money's worth so they make up for the expensive ones! And if I get some cheap ones that I only wear twice the other cheap ones I wear loads make up for it again... it's odd but it is my Shoe Economics Science!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary.
