    Afternoon everyone

Just been catching up from yesterday.
Dinah sorry about NIM's mum being so nasty. When I was married my MIL hated me and before we went on honeymoon she rang up and said that she hoped our honeymoon was a disaster and our plane crashed. I did point out that if the plane crashed I was fairly positive that the honeymoon would be a disaster!! This was just because she thought I'd said we wouldn't bring her any cigarettes back from duty free. Mind you, she was (and probably still is) an evil witch who said a lot worse to me. I've got the last laugh now cos I'm settled with a fantastic bloke and get on really well with his dad and step-mum (his mum died a few years ago) whereas my ex flits from job to job and girlfriend to girlfriend and still takes the abuse from his mum. He kept thinking we got married on 31st October but it was actually 30th. I told him we couldn't get married on halloween cos his mum was busy on her broomstick!!!!!:rotfl:

Cinny - nice avatar.....making my mouth water!

Birdie - nice DOTD but if I wore it I'd look like one of those doll things people used to shove over the toilet roll in the 70's!!

Right, off to see if dooyoo moved my review to the right place (I emailed them yesterday)
Let's start again (really need a kick up the bum now) :wall:

Ahh! I'd advise just to sit tight. Sounds like he needs to realise what she's doing to him in his own time.

I wouldn't worry about it Dinah, she seems like a troublemaker to me! NIM has moved over to Ireland for you, I don't think words from his mother will change that any time soon.

Came home to find a £25 cheque from my Great Auntie for my birthday, pinned for savings once its cleared. :j
Booking myself in to have my hair cut tomorrow, hoping they might be able to fit me in tomorrow afternoon aswell. Just need my fringe cut back in, and my bob re-inverted! My pre-birthday treat, that's what I'll call it, done at the salon next to our office on 'mates rates' so it's normally only £8.

    Have a nice night ladies!

I am also a clean but untidy girl with an OCD OH! So funny and good to hear all the stories.

Aww Dinah, bummed for you on the MIL front. My Mum is a bit on the harsh side and has been trying to tempt me back to NI for years, with bribery (we'll buy you a house) to guilt diverted via Gran! My Mum never really respected my relationship with OH, and while I think she thought he was nice, she was quite neutral towards him.

It all came to a head when I stayed in London with Paul the Xmas before last. She cried on the phone when I told her and then wouldn't speak to me for 2 weeks, even though I came home for new year's on 27th Dec. One of my sisters really backed me up which was great, and gave her a bit of a telling-off. Since then things have really changed. Last year she bought OH £50 of design books - big improvements from the previous year's beer towel!

We have just worked out these family complications, sometimes toeing the line, sometimes compromising and sometimes suiting ourselves. If you give it time, there is a good chance she will come round. It's really upsetting, and even if it doesn't feel good you have to just let it slide, and yet help OH be strong and confident enough to make his own decisions.

The good news is I have finally got my interview for Friday! The bad news is that because of the tutor's sickness I have missed the deadline to apply for funding. Typical, eh?

Best of luck in the interview Lara.

Your OH's mother sounds like a proper madam Dinah. I wouldn't advise anyone to go looking for a job in Ireland at the moment, it is in a way worse situation than here, that's for sure!

It might be a good idea to tell your OH that he doesn't necessarily need to tell you every name his mother calls you. It is not very tactful of him and if he can't stand up for you then he shoudn't involve you in the disagreements as it is very upsetting for you.

Don't mind her, she sounds like she would dislike anyone that went out with him. Think about your nice holiday. As someone else said, he moved to the UK to be with you, not her. Actions speak louder than words!

Don't forget to bring him out for a few Paddy's day drinks. He might be lonesome for Ireland tomorrow. It is a big day for all of us Irish!!!

I'd love to go to Ireland for St Patricks day, Irish people seem so much more patriotic than us English Ladies and Gents. Good idea on taking NIM for a few pints CMD! Would give him time to relax and forget about his mother for a bit too.

Good luck on the interview Lara!! Will there be another chance for funding?

My NSW will be ruined today, need to go into town after work for some stardrops and cat food - thankfully bargained my sister (ex-hairdresser) to cut my fringe in and I quite like my hair now so saved £8 there.

Came to work on my vespa so didn't have to get here until 8, still get paid from 7 though! :j Suppose I best get to work then...

Good morning! Yay for the interview Lara, hope it goes well! Bummer about missing the funding deadline, that's not fair!

I got a nice delivery of crafty stuff yesterday so spent a couple of hours last night hidden in the spare room working on a layout for my scrapbook whilst watching SATC on my laptop, bliss! OH said he loves living with me now because I have all of my stuff in the house to keep me entertained and he gets left alone to play on his xbox!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

The best place to be in Ireland for St Patrick's Day is Galway. What a laugh it is! It might not be so jolly with the huge recession on at the moment though. It is so depressing over there.

I was in Sydney for Paddy's Day last year. Lots of sun and merriment to be had! Don't think I can top that this year. One of my favourite Paddy's Days was when I lived in Scotland. We ended up in a non-Irish bar at about 2am in the morning and were dancing on tables with girls from Newcastle. What a laugh!

Better get to work, can't crack open the Guinness yet!!! Lol!

    Morning Everyone,

Hope everybody has a great weekend - mines was too good. Ended up going to Edinburgh for a pub crawl and some dinner (the rugby was on, but we lost as usual), and ended up spending most of the money I had saved for my road tax - argh! Now need to find £60+ by next week without raiding my savings!

Had a wee hol yesterday to take receipt of my new fridge freezer, it's so shiny and new and feel better about spending £250 on it. OH is helping me to get the old one out for uplift and is making dinner so that's a bonus. He's like a big kid when I say I'm impressed with his cooking (just a ploy so he cooks more).

Dinah, don't worry about your MIL, I'm sure your OH knows where is bread is buttered.

Where about in Scotland did you live CMD?

Morning girls, Happy Paddy's Day to the Irish contingent (CMD and Lara I believe? And NIM of course).

Been out all morning doing campus tours for interview candidates, was ok actually as it's a nice sunny day and it got me out of my windowless office for the morning.

Hurrah, finally, for the interview Lara! Is there no way you can apply for the funding at all, seeing as it was the lecturer's illness that stopped you from having the interview before the deadline? What will you do if you can't get funding?

Cinny, you talking about your Vespa reminds me I saw a girl on the back of a bike over the weekend and she was wearing a pink jacket and pink helmet-looked exactly like Penelope Pitstop and made me think of you! How's the fringe working out for you? I fancy getting one cut in but my hair's quite fine and flyaway so don't know if it would suit.

CMD, have you ever been to the Oyster Festival in Galway? I really really fancy it for some reason!

Birdie, sounds like you've settled into domestic bliss quite nicely. That's the thing that sounds good about moving in with someone, you can do your own thing but still see them; when I'm with OH at the weekends I can't sit and write a letter to a friend or something because we are 'spending time together', and sometimes I feel like I never have time to do anything because I'm spending time with him!

OK it's 11am and I haven't done a thing yet so gonna have a quick burst of work before dinner!
