More like a posh sparkly diamond ring!!!!
We're keeping our engagement (ooooh, wierd!) quiet for now as the ring has to be re-sized so it's going to be about 10 days till I get it and OH wants to do it properly and ask my Dad for his consent, brave boy! We got it on a bit of a whim which is why he hadn't already done it. We were just looking in the window of the jewellers and saw My Ring and he just asked me if I wanted it and bought it for me! Apparently he's been thinking about it for a while and was worried about buying me a ring on his own as he thought he'd get it wrong! It's lovely, white gold brilliant cut solitare... I wish it didn't have to be away from me for so long!
In about 2 weeks we shall be officially engaged, as opposed to our little secret at the moment! Eek!
Yah thats the best news:T :TMFW - We've only gone and blooming done it!May 2013:j0 -
I'm afraid given the oppertunity to pay a huge chunk off my flat/stay out of debt or spend a huge ammount on one day, I wouldn't hesitate for an instant. Weddings are very, very expensive things (one of many reasons why I dread having one), and the people who are most important in the whole palava are you and him, and there is absolutely no point spending such a stupid ammount on other people if one of you is unhappy. If his parents want to chip in then fair enough, but you've worked hard for your money, and I would be very, very upset/angry to have to pay out for people who neither of you have seen for years.
My friend is paying £9k for a sit down meal for 65, it terrifies me how much this would be for a 'big' family. Was on the radio only this morning that the AVERAGE (ie half are higher!) price for a wedding has now passed the £20k mark. If he wants all his family there he can have them, but at a less formal affair, or it can be smaller and formal, but there is going to be a life after the wedding, and you want to start it on the best possible foot, and being terrified about meeting the bills for that one day now in the dim and distant past isn't it.
Sorry, rant over, I just think weddings are stupidly expensive for just one day. It's the quality of the marriage that counts, not whether you start it off in a place built in 1402 with a £2k fruit cake!
I completely agree. OH and i have spoken about this before (it kinda been taken for granted that we will get married one day :rotfl: ) and he goes on about how he would have to have all these relatives there. Half of them i have never met - and i have been with him for four years!!!
It madness how much some people spend on weddings!!Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
Personal perspective would be that too many cooks spoil the broth, should just be the guy involved in the decision, if NIM tries to involve me if there is a next time I'm going to book a flight to Vegas and tell him that that is his punishment - he'll have soooo much fun telling his uber Catholic family he was married by Elvis!

Just tried to do a sexy little striptease for NIM, and as I unwrapped my dress a giant spider was on the inside! Last time I ever try to be sexy!
So tired, got in from the gym, had a salad, and now it's bedtime. Thank god my lates are only going to be Mondays and Tuesdays (although this week meeting a friend on thur and have a leaving do on Friday, so will actually be late every night). Did my pilates class, apparently my body lies. Lady running the class asked me at the start if I had done pilates before. No. Did I exercise much? Not unless she is prepared to count lifting bars of dairy milk as exercise, so, erm, no. End of the class she came over to me all puzzled, saying I must be doing a lot of exercise, possibly ballet? I laughed. She said the body didn't lie, and I was extremely flexible! Well at least I got something going for me physically, after the trainer laughed at me yesterday.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Ooh, Matron! (sorry, I could not resist that one)
Lara - Hope things start looking up for you soon, too! Like Dinah said, we're always here to listen. Have a dodgy hug right back missus! :grouphug:
Glad to hear your dirty/romantic weekend away went well Tete. Kudos for getting some swimming in! Still enjoying it?
On the wedding front - Long engagements are romantic in my eyes! I'd rather spend ages calling OH my Fiance then Husband. Fiance makes you sound young and starry eyed and Husband makes you sound like a bag of sprouting tators!
Back to half days today :T Didn't have time to do my hair this morning so I'm sat here looking like a cross between Annie and a 1930s housewife. Keep on going to the toilet to try and hand straighten my curls!0 -

   Oh my god, that is HORRENDOUS!!!! I was once in a French class when I went to brush away what I thought were stray wisps of hair on my forhead... when I brought my hand back down there was a giant spider on it!! I started screaming and the teacher squashed it with a textbook!
Flexible eh? Very good! I'm not at all, I blame my height though a bit, it's harder to touch your toes when they're so far away!Hoping to do a bit of pilates myself today to try and stretch my back and shoulders from the swimming. I've been getting Al to pick my up under the arms to crack my spine, but I feel pilates may be a bit better for me!
Not really enjoying the act of swimming Cinny... I would if it weren't for all the other people!! But I'm enjoying how I feel afterwards so that keeps me going.
Poorly sore throat here todayIt started yesterday but I thought it was just where I'd choked on a muffin earlier, but seems it's full-blown
