The ultimate incentive to get debt free, can I do it by New Years?

Hope they do! Was looking forward to getting in shape again!
These jobs are Gapbuster, no fee on them just reimbursement, but its a free meal out and saves us £25 that we'd pay anyway, so I'm still chuffed to bits. No referals on their site though, so just google it. I get one chain and their competitors from Gapbuster, but RE are best for pub meals, hoping some of those come up soon, should be about due.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

If it isn't too late get your OH to do an international money transfer.I transferred money from an Irish account last week and it took about a week!!!
Apparently he can't do that on a building society account, they're utterly useless. He wanted to do a wire transfer or whatever its called, but they told him he could only take money out by cheque.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Shame about the gym, Dinah. If you don't get a good deal this time I'm sure something else will come up. Were the 'vouchers' more like 20% off ect which = £300? Until you get a good gym place you could always drag NIM (hopefully clothed) on walks at the weekend or something?
Grandad gave me another £20 for my savings yesterday, he said I've got 'plenty more to come' as he keeps a running tally of how much he gives everyone but I told him not to be silly. Plan today is to pay for my specs with as much cash as I can then do the rest on card, if they let me.0 -
I'm sorry about the Gym Dinah, it's so annoying when vouchers turn out to be money off particular things rather than actual vouchers!
Your Grandad sounds like a real sweetheart Cinny!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
What a pain about those vouchers! It's not surprising at all though unfortunately. I can't imagine they'd be any more than 50% vouchers, so you'd have to spend £300 to make use of them all...
That's also shocking about the cheque! I was alway under the impression that UK and Ireland had a special sort of relationship for things like that as well..? When I lived abroad I always used to write cheques to myself from my English account because it cost the same as a bank transfer (about £20 at the time) and was quicker! (And easier). Maybe it's different with Brit banks though. I remember my Irish friend had a terrible time trying to find a bank over here to take her on, and even when she did she could only have the most basic account.
Mystery Shopping is sounding more appealing by the minute. Don't know what OH would say about it, he already thinks I'm cracked. I could always not tell him, but can imagine the conversations: "But I don't fancy an Indian tonight..." "TOUGH. We're going! [I have a report to write]" How long and detailed do the reports have to be? I guess though you only need to do as many jobs as you want, you could maybe just do one a month?
Cinny I agree your Grandad sounds ace. It's a good incentive to save though isn't it, knowing you don't want to let him down? Have you chosen your new specs yet? On my to do list today is make an appointment for an eye test...Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Yeah you only take as many jobs as you want, there are always more people wanting them than there are jobs available anyway. Gap are best for meals, RE are best payers and frequent jobs (pm fro referal) and grassroots pay well but dont have many jobs, but good for banks on a lunchtime. GFK don't really suit me due to the type of jobs, but have quite a few jobs. Gap are extremely easy reports, GR pretty easy too, they give me the supermarkets, GFK are confusing, and RE are long and require a good memory.
We can walk on a weekend but I really want to be able to go on an evening to do something. All fingers crossed gym call back with an offer OH is happy with!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

He is lovely, my Grandpops! You're right Tete, does give me an extra push to save for him. Going to transfer £20 over today so I can tell him tonight. My mum paid for my glasses as it came to more than I have in my CA (£150!) Can claim the eye test cost back through the company, paid off £50 in cash, and only owe mum £30 as she said she'd pay the rest but I'll secretly pay her back in coffees and sandwiches. On the other hand, my eyes haven't changed much!
It does sound a bit long winded over the cheque Dinah! Hopefully the time will fly with NIM being over (that's my positive spin anywho.) Is a shame about putting it all on your CC though, but it isn't really your debt as it's going to be paid off. Will you be adding it back on to your total?0 -
Dinah the way I rationalise my gym expenditure is that it stops me from doing more costly things. My OH works shifts so I have a lot of evenings and days off on my own. I try to go to the gym and swimming, which easily occupies a couple of hours. If I wasn't at the gym I would truthfully probably be either (a) shopping in town, stopping for coffees, snacks etc or (b) out with friends either drinking or eating.
Cinny your Grandad sounds like my Grandparents. Even when I was earning £35k they would try and give me the odd £20 and wouldn't take no for an answer. If I go on holiday the always give me and my hubby £20 each for spends. It's so sweet of them-I try and repay them with books, birthday pressies etc but if I ever go our for lunch with my Nan she won't let me pay.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
Mmmm with OH working evenings I will happily go to a class on the way home, and we can go together on a weekend, but if I was at home I'd probably be doing moneymaking things so it kind of costs in two ways! But I do need to be more balanced, and the classes last night looked lovely.
Wash your mouth out Cinny! This is not my debt, this is his, so no it's not going back on the sig!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
