Good morning all, hope you had a lovely weekend.

We got 43 comics listed yesterday, made a good team, I did the pricing up and searching for prices on the rarer issues while OH made up the turbo lister adverts as ebay makes me want to boot the computer. Got so annoyed by about 11am that I neatly packaged the comics back up, went out the back and put them by the bin. OH came after me, took the comics off me and brought them back in! And when we started doing the '100 bullets' ones late last night and I realised if they all sold for their asking price I would make nearly £700, I was quite glad he did!

My parents are away for the weekend and my brother took off to stay at a friends last night, so OH and I had a bit of time to ourselves. We were having a lovely evening when I got a phone call at about 9pm from my brother. Turned out his friend had forgotten he was coming and was out, so he had turned his bike round and riden to another friends house but they were out too, so he'd eventually ended up at the lad who lives with us gf's parents house, but after cycling 38 miles in the dark and it had started to rain he called me to say he wanted to give us some privacy but he was cold and tired now and needed somewhere to sleep so was it okay if he came home! This is after doing a 65mile ride that morning! Bless him he's so sweet sometimes!

OH was a bit pouty this morning that I had to go to work, but we've made the decision to go for 'normal' jobs for him since nothing seems to be coming up in legal, and he will do a day or two unpaid each week in work experience until something comes up. Surely that must say to employers he's hard working if he's keen enough to work unpaid to get into the field he wants to be in?! Such a change from my ex who was rarely willing to work even if it was paid in gold bars! And being at work I can print some jobs out for him later on after 4 when the office is a graveyard.

Got accepted to another mystery shopping company this morning, hopefully might start to get a little more work now. Not sure if I'm being defeatist or realistic saying I won't get the debt cleared by new years.

djdymond, i'm near Ipswich so not too far away from you. have you just gotten married as well, when was the big day, we have been married a month ago today.
Rang the bank and got a right dippo, said the DD guarentee would take 48 hrs, my response was that the guarentee says immediate so i don't think so. Trouble is they didn't do the transfer between the accounts so i had to do it. Their story was the transfers happen at midnight, now funilly enough, last time i spoke to the bank they said they happen at mid day. Bet i get bank charges from them and it's only moving money between my two accounts! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr all that hard work and then they mess me up.

Big congrats to you too Lemon Tree :D I used to be really scared of weddings, but now I'm a warm fluffy person I get all gooey and I love a happy ending.

The people on the telephone banking tend not to give a jot about your banking, I've found the only way to get things done is to go to the bank in person. Shame they automated most it so it takes about 30mins to see one of the only two people who work there.

Got my parcels to post today. Nothing else sold yesterday which was a bit sad. OH did ads for another of the comic series although I forgot to upload them. He's looking at jobs today, so unlikely to get any more listed. I brought back a load of jobs last night, which mum promptly shuffled through to find ones for my brother who is doing his A-levels atm but could use a few hours per week.

Mum is trying to convince us that it would be a good idea to get a house. There are some really nice ones in the village that are new build and they are taking mad offers on. The 4 bed terraced ones that started at 199k are now accepting offers of 105k, advertised at 140k. There are two 4 bed detached styles too. I would love to walk over there and buy one, as I'm having a bad nesting instinct at the moment, and a house of that size technically could last us 10 years or more, however we don't know where OH will be working in 2 years, and I don't want to take on a house now that may well have to be sold at a loss in 2 years time. I've also said I don't want to take on any more joint finance before marriage (not that mum knows this), although technically I could get the mortgage just based on my own salary if I had a deposit. I like how cheaply I can live now, but that doesn't mean I'm not hugely craving our own space, and it's only going to get much, much worse if OH moves in as 2 people in a 12ft square room is kinda cramped. I love cooking and I'm used to having my own house, and I can't wait for when I get to properly be a couple and take care of my own family, even if that is years away.

  • Dinah you're doing really well! i just read your thread from start to finish, it's very inspiring but then you've got a good goal to work towards! i've been paying my debts off for 3 years now, ever since i was a student. Just worked out that with the increased payments i can make due to starting a new job i can be paid off by july at the latest. I can't wait, i can live normally again and actually start saving. We've just got our first house-thanks largely to my OH paying most of the mortgage and i can't wait to help out more and maybe even do the house up.
Thank you for your thread, i'm gonna keep reading it to keep me going!

Hi Jellybean thanks for posting. That's great that you'll be clear in less than a year, stick around MSE and you may well find it's even sooner, I get a lot of my momentum and energy from here.

Sold another game last night, after posting should be another 50p profit. Conversely in a much quicker moneymaking effort I foud £1 on the carpark floor this morning which is going straight in the ISA! Have the shoes I sold on ebay to post too, but I cant find the postal order the girl sent to pay for them, so at the moment I'm making a loss which is a bit rubbish! OH is listing some more of the comics today. Given that ebay have this 5p auction thing going on until the 9th November I'm tempted to stick them all up for auction and then only go to fixed price if that doesnt work.

Chased up work today as I had to get some new glasses in February, and I can get up to £80 cashback from my employer as I use a computer for over 18.5 hours a week, which is a nice little policy they have. Apparently they received my form, and then filed it instead of processing it, so she's going to get onto that for me.

I'm a bit concerned, haven't heard any more from ex's mum about the joint account. Would be good to get that finished off. She's already paid me for his half, but it needs a minimum of £500 a month to go through it otherwise it incurs fees, and there is no way I'm going to do that while he still has access.

Ooooh just sold another game on amazon, will post that on Thursday. That's another 50p or so made. :T

Going to buy OH a PAYG mobile at Tesco on my way home tonight. Their cheapest one is under £20 with £10 of free credit, and it means he will have an English phone number to put on these job applications, as I think employers might be a little put off about calling an Irish mobile number. Tesco are also cheapest in terms of receiving calls while abroad, and he can text 5 favourite numbers for 5p when he is over here, half the cost of the main networks. Not sure he even knows 5 english people though!
