I got an e-mail last night saying that the Nationwide account is no longer available to undischarged bankrupts. Can anyone confirm this?
Who emailed you with this?
I'm BR and have a Nationwide account and have not heard this.

Hi Fermi
I got the e-mail as a circular - I'm part of a Money Advice forum. I didn't recognise the sender's name but the quote is as follows:For info Nationwide has changed its requirements for their flex
accounts on all circumstances from 1.7.07 onwards (bit of a shame) even
though the paperwork is dated March 2007, so wont now accept undischarged bankrupts or significantly anyone in an IVA. This leaves
Co-operative Bank (Cash Minder Account)
Barclay's (Cash Card Account)
as the only certainties to open for any insolvent although some basic
accounts still have a degree of discretion to their conditions so may allow
those with IVAs to open them but the two mentioned above are now the only certainties after going ahead.0 -
Fermi has posted about this here . I suggest we keep the discussion of this to his thread, so that everyone can see it without disrupting the sticky (as per the Board Guide's request here earlier in the thread). I'll update my original post to include this update.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Hello People
This site is great and full of very good advice.
I do have a big problem in that i cannot open a basic bank account. I am two months in to my bankruptcy and have tried all the banks on here and more and still get refused. I really need to find a bank account so i can get my wages paid in each month. I am still waiting to here from the co-op about there cashminder account but if i am refused that then i have no more banks to try. If anyone has some advice it would be very welcome.0 -

The banks listed here are the only ones we know about that definitely will let bankrupts open accounts. I suggest you start your own thread rather than posting in this sticky, so that people know that you're looking for more info.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Hi all,
just thought I'd let you know myself and dh were turned down for a coop cashminder acct a couple of weeks ago. i spoke to one of the managers who advised me to put my complaint in writing etc. Well, guess what arrived in the post this morning...... a visa electron card for myself and hubby. i phoned coop to check as i've seen previous threads on accts being set up then cancelled. but the nice young lady advised me that acct was set up and fully operable, and would i like to set up my security questions and internet banking!
What a relief to have a joint acct with a debit card, we have been relying on my hubbys lloyds acct with a cashcard for over a year.
It pays to complain, but in a polite manner!!

Hi
I can confirm that Clydesdale Bank in Scotland are quite receptive, especially if you ask for a deposit account with a Maestro card for withdrawing cleared funds. This is also good for internet purchases in some cases, and although quite limited, it is a starting point for some.
This problem of new bank accounts is by far the biggest injustice to people supposedly being given a fresh start, although there are plenty of other topics to be tackled on this front from both sides of the arguments involving leniency and responsibility regarding bankrupts.0 -
I got an abbey cashcard account as an undischarged bankrupt, now that I am discharged 18 months does anyone know of a bank that will let me have a better account. I had an early discharge as bankruptcy was due to illness0

Hi tallyb1,
I suggest that you re-post your message as a new thread, as it will probably get seen by more people that way rather than in this sticky, which is really just for info only.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
