    Good idea.

How do we get this started?
I am sick to death watching the price and panicking that if I don't order NOW the price will rocket.
It is almost impossible to get it right

In the absence of a national newspaper getting behind a campaign (and none of them seem very interested in the issue) I suspect all one can do is complain to one's MP - and I'm not very optimistic about that producing any effect, I must say!

Possibly the best we could hope for is oil users to be treated the same way as electricity and gas consumers. As things stand, when the government or regulators do talk about rip-off energy costs, they ignore both oil and solid fuel users because there are, relatively speaking, so few of us.

It may be worth bringing that point up with individual MPs.

Well why not Martin behind us then, if you ever read these posts Martin, or if someone who speaks to Martin sees this, can you pass it on? how about it?

Does anyone on here work for a National Newspaper?

Also, regarding not many using oil, I had not thought of it like that, as where we live we do not have natural gas, so we are not able to take advantage of gas and electricity together, and it is either storage heaters or oil. When we retired here 23 years ago it was 10p a litre!!

Anyway, if you need a supporter for a petition or whatever, let me know!

Our MP is labour, but I am still waiting for a reply to an e mail about something else from about two months ago!!!

    Best wishes, oap

It's crazy.... Crude Oil is the lowest for some time and heating oil is going up again??????
I see petrol was down to 94p today. It's all a little unfair. I am glad heating oil is not 60p plus, but I think it should be less that 40's
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!
  • I too smell a rat here.

I have been keeping any eye on the crude oil price and the local price for 1200 litres here in Northern ireland (arguably more ripped off than the mainland!!)

The crude price peaked in June/July at around $145 a barrel. The price from my supplierin early August was £718.

Since then the crude price has dropped to less than half of that peak price and particularly in the last month it has been in the mid $60's a barrel. In that time my suppliers price had gone down to as low as approx £500 but over the last week has cept up again to about £525 even though there has been no significant invrease in crude prices.

I did a rough check of the crude price the last time my supplier was charging just over £500 before the big rises which was in January of this year and the crude price was in the mid $80's a barrel. So who's profiteering now?

I know this is not likely to be an accurate correllation but its always the excuse given by the oil companies and is the only information a consumer is likely to have.

The only logical assumptions one can make is that (A) there is no reason why the price should be creeping up again and (B) the oil suppliers are criminally slow in passing on the true cost.

GET THE F***ING PRICE DOWN TO A FAIR LEVEL!!!

Paid 41.5p per litre yesterday, came to £435.75 including vat for 1000 litres, filled the tank!

Just now price has gone up on oilpricecheck since yesterday and oil gone up to $64.70 a barrel, so it is not matching the oil we get. Someone has told us the oil deliveries are suffering because many people are ordering in 500 litre lots, therefore they are coming out twice as much which costs more, maybe we are paying for that too. Roll on November when some of us get the government's pay out of £250 this winter, which is a great help, I dread to think if the conservatives would do the same, probably not, seeing as they were charging 17.5% vat when labour got in and then they reduced it to 5%, personally I do not think we should pay any vat on heating oil, or electricity or gas.

Now starts the long haul of trying not to use the oil, and its bloomin cold this morning, piddling down with rain, blowing a gale, so it is on!! oap:mad:

I agree. Drop the VAT. It's crazy really. Last week I bought 4 new tyres for the car. I gave the garage £150 and the government £35. Why should they get a cut?

The government can't scrap VAT. It isn't allowed to. We can thank the EU for that.

Without trying to be confrontational, I wonder what people on this forum feel is a fair price for oil?

Playing the ‘Devil’s advocate’ oil has reduced from an extreme of over 70p a litre to under 40p.

Clearly the price of crude oil is just one element of the delivered price. The infrastructure to produce, deliver to the property and profit margin must be xxp a litre???

After all my water company get their ‘product’ for free, yet I still pay to have it delivered.

    Just asking!
