Heating oil dropping like a stone

Peak District. 39.95 for 500 litres. Another supplier in the same area has 47.6 for same amount. Boilerjuice shows 49. All plus vat.
Getting better. Have ordered 500 (the price is the same whether 500 or a million litres with this firm) as I have less than a couple of inches and visiting children next week so can't wait any longer but using all the hints and tips on the preparing for winter thread I'll be able to make it last a good long time.

Just had a look at website oilpricecheck it is £383.16 down a lot from yesterday, including vat. They give a fairly general price, but think will order tomorrow, petrol round here gone to 1.03 and Tesco although far away from us someone said was 99.9p.
Wish we had a few more inches in tank, or wish the weather was warmer as although only using it half past six to nine pm, still using it, managed without it this morning as the sun is shining!! Faded furniture instead:eek:0 -
Hi, well just done the weekly round of phoning, best price 41.5 plus vat for 900 litres. Wors 42.98p per litre, so someone is still ripping us off.
However, been told this pm by two different companies that oil people cutting down on amount they release, also pound against the dollar is going to make a difference and it will go up from possibly next Monday, is this true? Does anybody know, anyway, waiting until next Monday, then we shall have to order as our oil will have practically run out, hey ho, such is life!!0 -
The pound against the dollar will make a difference but the international price of oil has fallen so far that a killing is being made at our expense. Instead of politicians banging on about the cost of petrol (which, I agree, is also a scandal) they should be looking into the way domestic users are being ripped-off by the oil companies and their supply chain for the price of heating oil.0

You know, that is exactly how we feel, we do not mind paying a reasonable amount, so they all take their bit of profit, but we hate being ripped off and yes all the hype about petrol and diesel, and there must be hundreds of thousands of us on oil central heating as it was the cheapest once.
They know dam well Christmas is coming, also us pensioners get our very much appreciated hand out in November, which I am told is two hundred and fifty for us under 80's this year, and we are very very glad of it. But it still does not help us when we always put our money away every month from our relatively small income to cover all our bills, ie at the end of the year we add up all the bills and divide by 12, been married 50 years and done that every year and never been in debt,(except for paying off mortgage of course) even going back many years when I used to borrow a pound off my mum to see me to the end of the week! (and old paper pound!) That was when thirty shillings (£1.50) filled your trolley at the very new supermarket!
But of course with huge rises in things, then the monthly put away is short, then it comes out of what is left, which is not a lot, and that is when it hurts.
Rambling on, so will shut up, and hope by next Monday it has come down further, looking at swinny.net just now it is 68 a barrel, but as you say the oil price to us has not come down with it, all I got told this afternoon was- well it is a hundred pounds less than it was a month ago, hmmmmmm, I said, and you told me to buy it then!! Glad we hung on, but they get us in the end don't they?
Cheers and thank you so much for the replies to my posts on this thread, always appreciated, oap0 -
With OPEC meeting today to talk about cutting back oil production in order to boost prices again it may be worth stocking up sooner rather than later. I think they fancy the $100 a barrel price more than the $68 they get today.0

Yes they just mentioned on the radio about cutting back oil, but the Governments do not agree with it, but guess the oil folk will get their way, maybe we are wrong, but hanging on until next week, then will order, as if they cannot get at least 900 in the tank will charge an extra 4p a litre. Still about three inches left, so will have a comfy weekend!!0

Hi oap, it might be worth double checking but the firm I bought mine from give the same price whether for 500 or a thousand litres - a flat rate however much you buy. I was very surprised and said so. -as he said it works both ways. This firm was also the cheapest by quite a bit when I rang round - 4p extra is extortionate. It might be something else to bargain with! I ordered 500 litres as I can't afford to buy more for now but if it goes down in a couple of months I can always get some more. To be honest I'm probably spending more on logs or electricity just to avoid using the heating and it's getting pretty chilly in this old draughty house whatever I do to weather proof it.

Well bit the bullet today, according to two of the companies I phoned who have no relationship to one another they advised to order by next Monday as Oil going to be scarce owing to reduction in production, so ordered today for Monday delivery at 41.5p plus vat for 900 litres or over. Only got two to three inches in tank, and it is one hundred pounds cheaper than it was four weeks ago, having said that, it is still one hundred pounds dearer than it was this time last year, near enough anyway.
We are in North Wales. Bought it locally from a smaller company as the larger companies were two or three pence more!!! Yes we thought 4p a litre was crazy, for less than 900, so will make sure by Monday we can get that much in, a friend of our son who appears to be 'in the know' reckons it will be cheaper in February, well we usually need some then, and no more until October, however, we will conserve it as much as possible, and try and spin it out until Spring, however, they do not seem to reduce the price much in summer anyway these days, they have got us all, whichever way, it will serve the oil countries right when we all go wind, tide, or whatever, but we shall be pushing up the daisies by then!!:rotfl:
Fed up with the whole dam thing ! oap0 -
I actually think Boilerjuice and the rest are taking the mickey. On 25/10 they were quoting me 40.99 per litre. Today, as crude prices continue to drop (despite OPEC's bravado) they are quoting me 44.12.
We need a proper enquiry into this - it's an absolute rip-off!0
