Some rather alarming reviews about it on amazon though.
Now where did I put that rope... she says shoving the medised out of sight...

Yes childrearing theories are different now I guess...I see these childcare books rather like a buffet menu though ...I just take what I want (ie what I agree with) and leave the rest...;) ...I just like to read a few to see what the "pro's" think

....but when they tell me to leave my child to scream himself to sleep I tend to think hummm not my bag really. (Mind you that's not to say I haven't let him cry himself to sleep on occasion but I draw the line at ignoring him when he says mama forlornly while alternating with heartrenching I'm desperately hungry/thirsty cries.....)

We went to our first proper baby/toddler group today it's only taken me a year :rotfl: . (Not counting the breastfeeding support gp I went to when LO was smaller) . He absolutely loooovvvveed it!! And made a new friend called george who he tried to play with by barging in on his toy every time ...lol....mummy was constantly having to stop him toppling little george! However mayhem ensued when he discovered the mini climbing frame and tried to go up the slide while little ones were coming down ...I think I may heve lost a few pounds today running to pick him up off the bottom of that slide every five minutes...

keely it prob is just the jabs, my LO always seemed to be grumpy for about a week afterwards. but if you're not happy then phone the health visitor or GP to set your mind at rest. and I agree with Js_Other_Half teething granules settle them really well - anything with chamomilia in it, i get teetha granules from tesco but there are loads of different types.

you're not alone my wee man has been really grouchy today as well he just wouldnt settle, wouldnt slep, wouldnt eat wouldnt play, I think its cos his dad was off for two weeks but he started his new job today and I think Oz is missing him. hopefully they'll both be more settled tomorrow!

He must have worn himself out with all the crying and fidgeting because i eventually got him to sleep/bed at 10pm, and he slept untill 4:30am for a feed and then went back to bed till just before 8am :o So at least we got some rest, and i feel a lot calmer after the break.

I was told the jabs would make them bit off colour, but never imagined he'd cry so much lol.

Right now he seems ok, but yesterday started off ok and then he suddenly went grumpy on me.... fingers crossed he'll be a bit happier...please!

Do i ask at the chemist for the teething powders? What do they contain?

    keely.

  • hi everyone, hope you are all ok - keep lurking but haven't posted on this thread for ages.

I often have to stop my little one from eating things he shouldn't - most things come out the other end eventually.

Like someone else said - you need to get used to nits and worms when you have kids - the first couple of times you might be 'devastated' but they become an inconvenience and something you have to deal with. Really annoying though when other people ignore them and spread them.

I bought toddler taming a few years ago but never got chance to read past the first page.

Curious George - it has probably all come out the other end by now - bits of cotton fall of things and it doesn't matter how careful you are you can't watch them constantly.

Septemberbaby - hope you are feeling OK - not long now!
    now mum of 4!!!
  • as i said before, I have an 8 year old girl as well as Danny, so im well aware of nits and germs and grubby stuff like that
but i can hand on heart say we have never had worms

    *shudder*

Ugh, I was just about to make my lunch but I think I'll wait. _pale_ I resisted looking at the worm pics, but the stories of yoga people swallowing towels and dogs eating socks have made me a bit queasy TBH :o

Agutka - another vote for Toddler Taming. Don't know what the Amazon reviews say, but I found it pretty helpful with DS1 - it's pretty down-to-earth, "your child is normal, these things don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, so get a grip, woman" type stuff which does actually make sense, LOL.

Note to self: need to re-read it as don't really remember much! :rotfl:

Do agree with Tsstss though - as with all parenting books, choose the bits you like/work for you, and ignore the rest! :D

I've lost who said it but my dog has done sparkly poos too  she ate some of the reg plate on my dads motorbike
I've personally never understood why people have such an issue with worms n nits, yes they're a bit icky to think about but its just a fact of life, these things happen ;)
I don't bother with childcare books as I feel like I know what I'm doing, I may regret saying that if the police drag Chris home when he's a teenager! If I'm not sure of something I consult my mum n sister to see if they agree with my plan but I think I'll need help with potty training which we're starting shortly

My LO has been like that for the past week aswell. Had jabs last monday, grumpy, not eating/ sleeping all week. I ended up working at home for a few days as my mum wasnt around to help look after him. Took him to nursery today and he cried when I left, felt really bad but had to come to work as off for long weekend on Thursday. MIL is coming to stay to look after LO and I know I'll be worried all weekend that he'll be a nightmare....still at least my mum will be close by to help out I suppose but I know I'll feel guilty.

It will only be the 2nd time since he's been born that we've left him and last time it was only overnight at my mums. Mind you looking forward to a nice pamper session on Sunday that I'm treating myself to for my birthday next week.
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.

I didn't realise nits and worms were that common. We used to get letters home at Primary School if anyone had worms or nits and they weren't that frequent.

 well did my usual putting Chris in his cot with a bob dvd while I had a shower and got out to find him naked after he'd removed his nappy which he'd pooped in, so he was straight in the bath and I've had to put all his bedding and toys in the washer and scrubbed his cot and will have to do the bath later why must they do these things:confused:

    .

We use Ashton and Parsons teething powders - our local chemists do them, boots or sainsburys pharmacy aisle. The come in a little old fashioned box, with 20 'wraps' of powder in wax paper. At your LO age I think you use half a wrap - my Ds used to open his mouth for them from when he was tiny, or you can pour half on a spoon. The texture is like icing sugar - it contains a variation of chamomile.
