  • well... i think we have got off the topic of poo for quite long enough... so let me steer it back :D

The other week when I was changing Daniel i noticed a hair sticking out of his bum, was very long... and looked like it used to be blonde.. no doubt that its one of mine, they get in everything (lol)
i gently pulled it out but it was almost out anyway, i think i rolled my eyes at the situation but didnt really think anything of it until yestrday when i was changing his bum and the same thing has happened, except its not a hair this time... it looked like a thin piece of string, i gave it a gentle tug but nothing happened, and not knowing what it could be wrapped around or how long it is on the other end I wasnt going to yank on it,
i cleaned up around it and left it all day, it looked like hes got a tampon up his bum and the string is hanging out!
so last night OH asks me if ive tried to gently pull it out and got hold of it... just at that moment Danny decides to make a quick getaway off the mat and what ever the stringy thing is... snapped!
now im sure he still has some in there...and because of this he had some chopped prunes as finger food to help things along, if i see anymore we shall take him to the docs, but as he doesnt care at the mo, eating drinking, peeing pooing etc i dont see the point.
but has it ever happened to any of you?
was impossible to google for anything helpful...!!!
my dog used to eat all kids of things, i remember seeing him running round the garden with half a tea towel hanging out of his catflap, but try and look up the same thing for babies and all you get is a load of mums talking about black bits in bananas (dont ask) and MUCH worse.... (REALLY, dont ask!)
its not like he is left to his own devices... we watch him like a hawk but every now and again he does swallow something miniscule he has found on the carpet before anyone gets to him

    tell me im not alone!!

I was wondering if anyone knows how long after having the jabs a baby might be ill/affected by it? Elliot had his jabs last wednesday, and has been grumpy ever since, dont know if its because of the jabs or just a coincidence. He's had a slight cold and a cough since then, ive been giving him the paracetamol off the docs, but he just wont settle. Ive been tearing my hair out all day today-hes hardly slept at all, mainly fidgeting and then crying his eyes out.... ive tried all options ie nappy, feed, infacol for colic, calpol off docs, sat him in his swing, bouncer etc cuddled him, stripped him off so hes not too hot etc... but he just wont settle! the crying earlier got to me, and i cried with him. i cant cope with the crying....

    help me someone!!

  • Keelykat - it sounds like the jabs could be kicking in - have you been in touch with the doctor?

If you have, and all is well, then consider teething powders - they may help relax him.

keely it prob is just the jabs, my LO always seemed to be grumpy for about a week afterwards. but if you're not happy then phone the health visitor or GP to set your mind at rest. and I agree with Js_Other_Half teething granules settle them really well - anything with chamomilia in it, i get teetha granules from tesco but there are loads of different types.

you're not alone my wee man has been really grouchy today as well he just wouldnt settle, wouldnt slep, wouldnt eat wouldnt play, I think its cos his dad was off for two weeks but he started his new job today and I think Oz is missing him. hopefully they'll both be more settled tomorrow!

Grrr I've just got back from Mothercare.

I bought some new nursing bras at the end of June. The ones I had (which I'd used for 14 months) were just getting a bit shabby - there wasn't anything actually wrong with them. Yesterday the elastic on one of the new ones detached from one of the clips. If you look at it it is really obvious that it wasn't stitched on properly as all the stitching has gone from it but when I went to Mothercare they just said it was "normal wear and tear" and that I'd had it for "five" months (it's actually only four and a half!) so I'd had "good use out of it" and refused to give me a refund.

sorry Susan, but I gotta say i don't think any shop would replace a bra after that long, it would be too hard to prove it wasn't made properly.

if you're really cross about it though write a letter to their customer services and send the bra into them, you never know you might get a result!

I think you need to take him to the docs, from what you describe it sounds like he's got worms (I got them a few times as a child its quite common esp when you have dogs/cats etc) they won't cause to much prob but he's too young for over the counter worming tablets hence needing to see the doc (who will more than likely want a stool sample) if you still have the stringy thing take it with you if you can *nice thought!* general info about threadworms here

  • thanks sami but ive seen them *gag* and this is not worms... it is an actual piece of string, or something else he has scavenged from the carpet

Sorry CG, but I'm still with the worm theory. Do they look like the ones on this page? You need to click through on the view picture link - not for the faint-hearted as they are shown 'in context' as it were - http://www.mcneilhealth.co.uk/familyhealth/Threadworms_486_486_138.html

Imogen's been a beggar to get to bed again tonight. She kept opening her door and yelling last night. When we eventually stopped going to her she sat and nattered for a while, then we heard the door close. 30 mins later we go to check on her and she's tucked up in bed asleep. Ahhhh!

Same thing tonight only we didn't bother going to her at all. She just chatted to the darkness for a few minutes then closed her door and went back to bed.

Great news! The build is progressing at pace and they think we'll be done for Xmas, hurrah! It means me and Imogen moving out for 2 weeks, but we can do some decorating over the Xmas break (we've both got 2 weeks off) which will be time very well spent.

If it's within six months then legally the burden of proof is on them to prove that it wasn't faulty. It's also supposed to be "satisfactory quality" which means it should "last a reasonable length of time" which it hasn't.
