Hi and welcome Sarah!0

Welcome Sarah. Hope you enjoy it here.
If any of you were thinking of doing personalised Xmas cards Sainsburys sell the 'empty' cards with space for a 7"x5" picture, £3 for a pack of 6. This is loads cheaper than the online companies I've seen. We're just doing a limited selection for grandparents and fairy godmothers. Off this afternoon to the swings to take a winter-y picture of her wrapped up in hat & scarf.
Was hoping she'd nap before lunch, but from the banging and shouting coming from her room, I reckon that was a vain hope!
She's v excited about the new bedroom which Bob The Builder is building for her...MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -

thanks Lu cos I just bought Oz a santa hat for the christmas card picture, gonna sit him in his bumbo (covered with red material) and put a cuddly reindeer next to him,
he's outside in his pushchair sleeping at the minute all snuggled up he's been out there for an hour now wee monkey has decided he wont sleep anywhere in the house during the day time. we left him sleeping in the car outside his grandparents house yesterday and my MIL nearly had a fit telling me the car could go up in flames, but I leave him sleeping in the car all the time outside our own house and like today he's always outside on the deck in his pushchair. does nobody else do this?!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Hi all
Our son is 14 weeks old now. His sleep schedule looks like this
night from midnight- 6/7am
nap off and on during morning
No sleep from 11/12 through to 7 or later
Maybe a long nap during the evening, but not always
Overall he is getting way less sleep than we expected.
Nothing seems too guaranteed to get him to sleep - extended stroller trips or car trips will often help him drop off but not consistently, and as soon as they stop he wakes. Even after a feed he will only doze lightly til moved at all then wakes.
Quite often in the afternoons or early evenings he seems deeply tired or over-tired, but any attempts to put him down in his cot just lead to extended crying periods and so far we've really not felt ok about just waiting him out - he sounds so miserable and if anything gets more worked up, not less.
All that said, after a late evening feed he will usually go down with no difficulty and sleep for 6+ hours - which is a real blessing especially as he's been doing this for a month already - but is there anything obvious to try re napping?
Thanks!0 -
Bruno it is only recently that I have been able to leave my DS awake to get himself to sleep, and even that doesn't work every time - he is 1.
14 weeks is so little and I am glad you're not leaving him to cry, at this age he would feel so very abandoned and not be able to understand where you are or that you would be coming back. Could you rock him to sleep, even in your arms?
Getting a 6/7 hour stretch at night is great... maybe he is finding his natural rhythm, as difficult as it might be! Or he could be teething maybe? OR just finding the world a bit too interesting at the moment... I would not fret, things can change so fast at that age and a week, two weeks, is a long time for things to happen.0 -
Nadnad - not just you. I would often leave Imogen asleep in her pram at the back of the house. Haven't left her in the car for long periods, but wouldn't think it's the end of the world if they need to sleep as long as you're checking on them. Bet you wish you could tell MIL to butt out (I might have done!)
Bruno - no massive words of wisdom from me, other than establishing a pre-sleep routine. For Imogen that was a combination of shushing and back/chest patting plus swaddling at this stage, but we always put her down while sleepy but awake. She used to sleep in her moses basket, but then someone said this could disrupt her evening sleep if she napped in that (something to do with having somewhere they only sleep for long periods) so I used the carrycot from her pram for naps downstairs and the moses basket for upstairs. It's a while ago now though, so my memory's a bit fuzzy. Bet some of the mums with younger kids will have some tips so keep an eye out.
Will the person who put the link to that fab flexible stairgate thingy please post it again? I've decided we'll need one for when the extension's finished as we won't be able to have a gate on Imogen's door any more (damn it!). We aren't doing much buying in advance, but I want this put up straight away as Imogen doesn't seem to have any awareness that she could fall down the stairs and frequently scares the beejeebies out of me by walking, or worse, running, within millimetres of the top step:eek:
Just done some more Xmas shopping, so well on the way to getting it finished. We're both from big families (3 siblings each, plus partners & kids etc!) so it's a long list.MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
hi bruno,
my little one's similar to yours. its really good that your son sleeps for that 6 hour stretch. the only thing i can suggest is trying to get into a routine of putting him down at the same times (roughly) each day, maybe after a feed when he's sleepy, put him in his cot or moses basket whatever and leave him to it but don't let him cry too long as soon as he starts then reassure him and leave the room. don't forget there are different types of cries sometimes Oz just moans and groans and I leave him to it it when he starts wailing then i go to him.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY
