Elliot's 6 weeks old today! Can't believe it still!Mommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0

Chocoholic I am still feeding Elliot at 1 year old. I would be quite livid if anyone made remarks like that to me - it's ignorant and offensive. They obviously know nothing about breastfeeding, perhaps they have issues about it. It's not as if you just wake up one day and feed a toddler, it's such a slow process - I don't see feeding Elliot now as any different to when he was tiny. And I wasn't even sure I would BF when I was pregnant! I certainly thought I'd have stopped before now.
I am also finding out two things, one, it is very useful to still be breastfeeding when Elliot is getting into a min-tantrum as it calms him when nothing else will, and two, we are all ill with this awful sickness bug, and breastmilk is the only thing he will keep down. If I was not BF-ing anymore I would be at a loss and very concerned about dehydration and weight loss. I am also passing on anti-bodies to him as I am ill too so helping him to get better. It's invaluable.
I am sure it has been linked before but Kellymom lists some of the benefits of breastfeeding an older infant here, and also the benefits for you - reduced risks of cancer and osteoporosis, mainly.0 -
Aww Keelykat, how is he doing? 6 weeks! It's a bit of a milestone, I think that was just about when I stopped crying all the time!0

Izzy's 2 on Thursday tooI can't believe 2 years have gone by since she arrived, I still think of her as my baby probably because I won't be having any more. She'll still be the baby even when she's 18!

Choc, I've never been a BF mum and I find their comments really offensive!. Try and take no notice and do what you feel is right. The only angle I can give on it is maybe they were commenting about BFing after 6m? No offence meant to anyone by the way!
