My dh is 37, I will be 30 in October, and with 3 kids, I doubt we would come across any barriers if wanting the snip now.

Thanks for the replies regarding the coil. One other benefit to the coil is that as soon as it comes out we could fall pregnant, there is no waiting time!! (I have got pregnant within 2mths of ttc all 5 times) I think I may have to consider it as I can see myself getting fed up of condoms pretty quickly:p

Well I feel refreshed. After Kai having a bad tummy most of yesterday and being really unsettled I was preparing myself for a bad night. What actually happened was: he had his last bottle at 9pm and was in bed at 9.40pm, he then slept soundly until 6.30:D

I'm glad there's a few of us who aren't sure about OH's getting the snip - I don't like that its pretty final. Our saving grace is that I have heard on the grapevine that even though we're married with 2 kids 'they' wouldn't snip my OH because he's too young, I've heard a few different ages batted about but most common one was 30 so thats 6yrs away for us so plenty time to decide

I mentioned OH having the snip when DD was about 2 or 3 and she was such a monster we weren't having anymore. He refused as he didn't want "anyone messing about with his bits". Luckily he did, as I got broody after another 4 years (long enough to forget what it was like!) and if he had got it done there would have been no Tom.

Talking of Tom, does anyone please, please, please have any advice on stopping breastfeeding a baby who really LOVES breastfeeding. He's 15 months at the weekend and I've really had enough but if I refuse he cries and cries and cries some more! He can manage without it as he does fine while I'm at work but if I'm there he mostly refuses other drinks. I've read about cutting out one feed a day gradually but he doesn't really have a routine; some days he hardly feeds at all, some days he does it lots. Do I just say no and face the crying? And how long would it take for my milk to disappear?

The best way is really distraction... Go out lots, spend lots of time up and about so he's not pulling at your clothes when you sit down... Every time he asks, find something really exciting about a toy and start playing... Takes a bit of work, but they all get there in the end...

As for how long your milk will last, it's a bit like a piece of string... Some people find they can produce milk for a long time after... Others dry up straight away... You'll probably find you don't get engorged if your body is used to sporadic feeding patterns though...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

  • Awww - thanks for the compliment Sami, I really am a very lucky step-mom :D DSS is very good with Benjamin, he thinks he is really funny when he pulls faces and waves his arms around. We have some treats planned for him in the summer because he has been very good whilst I was heavily pregnant and since Benjamin was born, we feel he deserves some time focussed solely on him :A Must be strange having to 'share' your dad when you only see him for a couple of days a week.

SB - *runs off to find the 'I'm really shocked' smiley* ;)

Bailey - sounds like you had a ball of a weekend!

MFD - Good idea ;) I also didn't realise until recently that you have 2 'grown up' DSS's too - looks like ur OH has strong 'boys' down there :rotfl:

Choc - not sure what Krystal think of them but I came across a herbal tea that claims to dry up ur supply - pretty expensive but looking at what is in them you could probably buy some of the components much cheaper

Thanks. That's what I'm trying but he's not easily distractable where milk is concerned. I know all babies are different but as an estimate how long would you say he will keep asking?

I probably wouldn't touch it with a barge pole Sami ;)

Honestly, milk dries up itself... Once you've stopped feeding the body stops making the messages to make more milk so eventually there will be nothing there...

I really couldn't tell you... I know of 1 toddler who was never off the breast, then suddenly seemed to forget about it for 3 days... When she asked again Mum just distracted her and she never asked again... We never thought she'd reach that point... But they do all get there in the end!

I know, I keep telling myself that! After all, I have a 14 year old and a 10 year old who have both stopped breastfeeding! It just seemed easier before. I think they weren't quite as strong-willed! on one hand I can't wait to be finished and on the other hand I feel a little bit sad :(
