i think maybe Krystal was saying that parents shouldn't complain tooo much when babies wake for a feed because they usually do need it when they're little, I think she's maybe saying its unreasonable to expect a little one to sleep through the night - and in fact according to statistics more babies up to 1 year DONT sleep through the night than do (whether this is for feeding i dont know). HOWEVER, all you mummies with the good sleepers - LUCKY YOU!! lol, if Oz slept throguh the night i certainly wouldnt be waking him specifically to feed him - not a chance!

Thank You for the warm welcomes

It has taken a few days for the boys to get used to him being here, ds1 came home from school on Thursday and was shocked to see the baby still here, he said he had forgotten all about him:rotfl: They do try and say hello to him when he has his eyes open, but find him rather boring at the moment.

Kai reminds me very much of ds2, he was very clingy baby and awkward feeder:rolleyes:...ds1 was a dream though, perfect in every way. I was conned into thinking having a baby was easy:o

DH took a week off from Uni so he could take the boys to school, and pick them up if I wasn't up to it, although I have been with him to pick up most days most days. As of Monday I am on my own to get the three of them sorted in the mornings....I'm sure i'll manage fine, but it will be strange:D

Top tip for getting a baby out in the morning - no need to dress them, just leave them in whatever they were in for the night if pressed for time!

  • Hi Ladies

I am finally making my way over here from the Pregnancy Thread!

MFD - proud mummy to 1 week old Benjamin John born on 14 March at 07.54am birth weight 8lb 14.05oz.

We came home on Sunday eventually - Benjamin had an 'injury' to his left arm which meant x-rays before they would let us out. At the moment we are unsure what the diagnosis is, although he is starting to use his arm and hold it much better. We have appointments next week for a brain scan to make sure it is not a neurological problem, a physiotherapist and one at Brimingham Childrens Hospital to see someone who specialises in nerve damage during prolonged labours and assisted deliveries (which is what we had!) - super-long birth story posted on pregnancy thread.

Anyway, Benjamin is breastfeeding fine after initial weight loss of 11.3% (cue more worrying and calls to the hospital to see if we needed to be taken back in) and between Wed and Fri he put on 8oz (good lad!!)

    So that's us!
Oh and I am a Step-Mum to 3 Step Sons, 21, 20 and 9 (my hubby is a bit older than me and needed a bit of practice before he found the right wife ;):D )

Looking forward to getting to know you all (well the ones that I don't already know!!)

    MFD xx

Lol, that's what I did for the first six months of Izzy's life, lucky she was an October baby and I could hide her in the cosytoes so nobody ever knew!

Hello to the new people, congratulations on your new arrivals and welcome to the other side....

This is exactly what I was thinking of doing:D I also said to dh, even if he needs feeding I can just shove him him the pram and whiz the kids to school and be back within half an hour, so he wouldn't even have to wait long, and being pushed around in the pram usually settles any baby.

MFD - I have just been over and read your bs, sounds fairly similar to my first labour.....and I have still gone on to have two more:) I hope they find out exactly what is wrong with his arm, glad to hear he s starting to use it now:D

Welcome all newbies. I'll pop over and look at your birth stories if they aren't 10 pages back by now!

Love that! MY DH needed some practise too! :rotfl: No kids though.

Imogen's much better today and has been a good girl at ballet and had a couple of hours sleep, thank goodness.

She didn't sleep through until about 16 weeks, which felt like forever but (in hindsight) I don't think was that bad. We started putting her to bed at 6.30pm from about 6 weeks and established a play, bath, feed, bed routine which has pretty much stayed with us. Nowadays she has supper and milk before bath though.

I think with this one I'll start putting him to bed later and working our way backwards (e.g. start at 9pm and gradually move towards 6.30pm). Most of the mums I know who did that got babe to sleep for longer in the night sooner, although it didn't mean they slept through sooner.

A girl at work's son is 15 months and still likes milk in the night. Not sure what Krystal thinks, but I reckon that's probably routine rather than need so I'd be tempted to get tough on it!

Thanks Krystal. I didn't think it was thrush, but it was bloomin' painful! Has gone now at least. It only helped if I could have my hand in my bra to 'cup' it, so will have to work on a discrete version of that if it returns at work:rotfl:

most mornings i think - its ok, the baby can go in his jamas with his coat on for the school run, and more often than not because im not stressing about it, i do actually find the few minutes it takes to get him done... although he is getting to the stage where getting dressed is like stuffing an octopus into a string bag
he lays on the sofa drinking his milk watching us all do the headless chicken thing and he gets his breakfast when we get back...
on the days when i run out of time and hes still in a sleepsuit or pjs - im sneaky like purplepatch, i have a cosytoes! lol

hi to my fathers daughter (that makes us sisters then yeah? :D )
congratulations and i hope that your little benjamin is alright,
my son lost 1lb of his birth weight but he was also in hospital at a week old for jaundice, on a little sunbed and couldnt be @rsed about feeding...
i love reading birth stories might pop back and have a look at yours.. as long as nothing on that thread makes me broody.....:D

i would think that Oz at 10 months now feeds in the night out of habit too, but at the minute its easier for me to just feed him and put him back than have to deal with the screaming - although i know that would probably only last a short while. Also he only takes 3 -4 feeds from me in any 24 hours and as he wont take any other form of milk I'm happy enough to keep feeding in the night - for the time being any way. I keep trying to stop but my heart hasn't been in it, and although i'm looking for a job i'm thinking that as only one of his feeds would be during work time I'm hoping that wont be too much of a problem to miss out on.

Mothers day tomorrow ladies, - whats everyone doing? I'm cooking a lovely sunday roast for my mum, her husband, my brother and us three, and then cos I felt guilty OH's parents werent coming I've invited them next sunday  . So not a particularly relaxing day for me for my first mothers day, but its nice to have family over and I enjoy cooking - cheesecake is in the oven right now all ready for tomorrow. Yum yum.

I'll be rushed off my feet doing everything! Hubby has broken his right hand and can't do anything. He's getting really frustrated as he took last week off work to decorate but he's just had to sit around bored all week. Even simple things like combing his hair and having a wee are really difficult to do with his left hand. He did offer to cook anything that only requires the use of a left hand though :rotfl:

Hospital have just left it for now to see how it heals, and he has to go back on Wednesday. If it's healing fine they'll put a cast on, but if not he'll have to have an op and have it pinned.

Sunderland v Man City is on an internet stream tomorrow, so hopefully it'll be decent quality and I'll watch that with a beer or two
Here I go again on my own....
