HI,
I feel a bit clueless at all of this!
I have a week old new baby boy. He is well despite some colicky pain and a little conjunctivitis.
I have been sadly unable to breastfeed him. I'm wondering if anyone else who bottle fed could give me a time-scale on how long it took your milk to dry up as it were?;)
Also, as I am at the moment sort of semi lactating do I need to allow any extra calories, obviously not as much as a 'proper' breast-feeding mum!
When your milk came in, did anyone else have a rather bad rash over their cheeks and jaw, I have hundreds of little red and white blistery spots (yum!) did you put anything on it that worked?
With your, ahem, lady's parts:o, did anyone else end up with bits of them that used to be tucked away inside, that are now outside you, and are therefore very painful in the first weeks, and is there anything I can do about this?
I hope this is the right place to post, if this is more for discussion of how the children are doing, perhaps I'll try my pals on the pregnancy thread, but thanks in advance for any thoughts.:T:T

Congrats on the birth of your baby :j
Of course you can post things like that here! Stick around and post anything else you're worried about and we'll see if we can put your mind at rest.
It takes 2-3 for the milk to go away. They'll feel really full as if they're going to burst open and they might feel hot too. Just grit your teeth and resist the temptation to express any milk. If you keep expressing, you keep making more milk so you need to break the cycle.
Your lady bits will settle back in time. They'll be all bashed and bruised still, so you need to give them time to heal up. Again it's just a matter of waiting. If it's still bothering you by the time you get your post natal check up (about 6-8 weeks after birth) then mention it to the doctor. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Hii started bottle feeding after a week of breastfeeding, i was leaking all over the place for about a week!! i had to wear two pads in each bra cup to stop the milk going everywhere.
Lady bits-i had three 2nd degree tears, so was very sore and swollen for a few weeks. Things look worse untill the swelling goes down, so try not to worry about that yetI'm happy to say my bits are fine now, everythings healed up nicely.
Congrats on the little one!and welcome to the parenting bit!!

Hi Weezl. I'm 8 weeks now and my lady parts are no longer sore, but still don't feel right either. I think I was sore for about the first month. The midwife recommende having baths (not too hot!) with a bit of tea tree oil in them. You can take ibuprofen and paracetamol if you need to. And they told me to do me pelvic floor exercises, as that makes more blood flow in the area, so it heals quicker. (although pelvic floor exercises are the last thing you feel like doing!)
Hang in there, it gets easier as you go on, and before you know it the baby will be grinning at youIsabella Molly born 14th January 2009

i advise you to do it though... especially if you are considering a second child,
my pelvic floor was probably the strongest muscle in my body at one point... and now thanks to my 2 delightful children im lucky if i dont wet myself on a daily basis!

for anyone is interested i did a bit of research and EVENTUALLY found what i was looking for on reception classes
ii found this on SELB's (education board's) website
"RECEPTION CLASSES (FOR CHILDREN NOT OF COMPULSORY SCHOOL AGE)
From September 2000 the number of children being taught in any class which has Reception, or Key Stage 1 pupils (P1
to P4) children by law with a very few approved exceptions has to be no more than 30. This means that some schools
do not accept as many children in reception classes as previously. In addition, the Department of Education is
restricting the number of schools that have Reception Classes. You should contact the Principal for each school you are
considering to confirm that there will be a Reception Class during the 2009/2010 school year."
if i'm reading the rest of the info i found correctly then reception is for those children who are 4 but not of compulsory age for school - i.e. you go into P1 the September after your 4th birthday (providing you are 4 before July), however if you turn 4 after July you can go into reception as follows:- (according to one schools admission policy i looked at)
4 in July and August then reception in September
4 after that then admitted the term following their birthday
though some schools seem to accept them the monday following their 4th birthday
it also seems that a lot of schools have the reception class in with the P1 class and so the numbers of children allowed to be accepted into reception vary with the numbers in P1 (and maximum of up to 30 children allowed in the class).
So I've answered my own question now! took a bit of searching on the education boards website though - you think they'd have an obvious explanation/policy somewhere.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I hope lil JFW is being a good boy for his mummy! (though weeing in her face isn't ideal behaviour, Chris used to wee in his own face!!)
I don't 'think' you need many extra calories but just eat what you like at this point!
I've never heard of the rash, prob best to ask MW about that one.
My MW advised that I wear a tight bra if/when I gave up on BFingnot sure how that works but hey! I think as well that if ur boobs feel like they will explode a bath will make them leak a bit but some your boobs don't count it in the supply/demand thing but I'm not 100%
My bits never looked exactly the same but looked 'normal' after a few weeks and stopped being un-comfy from about 1 or 2 weeks after.
It is common for things to look different and can be fixed if needed later but I'm sure everything will find its rightful home in time
You can get little ice packs to pop in ur pants if you think they may help
PS. Listen to the wise words of CG! Suffering from hayfever and many more allergies being stress incontinent is not fun(although my sister thinks its hilarious)

Hi Weezl - I guess I should join here too instead of lurking around the pregnancy board!!
The rash you mention - i've got one too. It started at my elbow, crept up my arms, chest, top half of back, up neck and stops at my jaw.
I went to doctors and he said it was common for women to have such a reaction after giving birth?!? Its still there now (she'll be 5 weeks on Saturday) so I was going to ask a different doctor at my 6 week check.
Hello to everyone else, i've recognised a few names off the pregnancy board - so here I am to join you.
I'm mum to DS (11), DD (8) and DD (5 weeks).
I didn't find MSE until i was pregnant - so didn't know this board existed - but here I am, and i'm sure i'll have lots of questions for you!:beer:0
