  • nadnad, that's very exciting :) Time to re-babyproof your house then!

No idea on the breech births here either...

HV came again this morning. Izzy is now 9lb 12oz, so she is progressing neatly along the 75th centile. From now on I have to take her to the clinic to be weighed rather than HV coming here, but that's no problem, as it gets us out of the house ;) We're clearly doing it all right anyhow.

And today I tried out the breast pump for the first time, so DH can do evening feeds before he goes to bed, and I can turn in early. I'm not actually overtired today, but I thought it would be a good idea to try it out before we're desparate for it. I have expressed about 4floz, so no idea if that will be enough, or if I will be woken up to provide a second helping, but we shall see :)

well done you for expressing Ladybird. Thats what I did at the start too, so i could have a break and lie in the bath for a couple of hours (my boyo wanted fed every 2 hours for about 3 or 4 months!), I got on to expressing quite well and usually managed about 4oz each time, but Oz did not take to a bottle at all so after many failed attempts and much wasted milk we gave up :(.

I kept expressing until he was about 5 months old and always kept a little bit of milk in a bottle to try and tempt him but it never worked, with the result i had a freezer full of milk which I donated to a milk bank. (a really good thing to do if you've got any excess).

Funnily enough I was talking to someone today who said a friend of hers' 2nd baby was breech. When she saw the consultant he said he'd no problem with her delivering naturally. She went into labour on her own but when she got to the hospital a different consultant said he didn't delier breech babies vaginally and she had to have a section

Sami-B, you're right. The only reason I had a section was because Imogen had been "difficult" and turned the wrong way. Her heartbeat was fast, but it was all the way through. It's that kind of tick-box approach to care that I object to. They can do whatever is clinically necessary for me and my baby, but I'm not just going to comply with a list of things they are meant to do which haven't been assessed on whether they are appropriate for me.

I'm on my high horse about this a bit aren't I?! I'll calm down for a while and then it will all gain momentum again in about 19 weeks!

Am shattered today, so off to get installed on the settee while OH puts Imogen to bed and makes tea. Laptop's out of action 'cos suddenly half of the keys on the keyboard don't work. Luckily I've a wireless keyboard, but it means I can only log on in my office, not downstairs in the living room like I'm used to.

sounds like someones spilt a drink on that!
laptop still works but some keys suddenly wont is classic signs of a spillage mishap!

have you girls read the handwashing thread that was in this section, got moved to the arms?
its gone a bit off topic (my fault! lol) but i cant get my head round one poster who is trying to pick a fight because her mil didnt strap her kid in on a car journey, and i said i would be angry about it.... i think shes actually trying to say its an over reaction!
    some people!

Curious G - I have a good friend who had her baby turned and her honest and frank tale of that was enough to put me off ever agreeing to that! I had a really simple straight forward and quick labour/birth with Chris so I figured that a breech baby would hopefully not be too bad compare to what some others go through in a normal birth (that's my crazy logic tho!)

Nadnad - yey Oz! :T Any baby that I have will be/ has been checked for hip problems with a scan by 6weeks due to family history anyway although I guess that means if I did have a breech baby then it would be even higher chance of hip probs

Lu - I think you're just a rebel like me  If I turned up and they say ur having a c-section I'd tell him if he was unable to perform his job then I'd like a new consultant right now - only in much less polite language probably!
I'm sure my MWs hate me as I refuse to do most things :o I'm only allowing them to take blood on 2 occasions 24ish weeks and that is purely for blood group & anti bodies and blood count then another blood count closer to my edd and they seam to hate the fact that I'm not willing to let them try and change my mind to what they want me to do  I just remind them that I may look young (and am a bit) but I have done this before and I have based my decisions on my last pregnancy plus lots of research and "having a chat" about it is not going to change my views!

I love watching the baby programmes when im pregnant, and ive seen loads of those ECV things, and they look awful... for mother and baby
My cousin had one and after half an hour of intense pain that left her with bruises and real worries about what she might have done to her babe, he still managed to turn back and she ended up having a section anyway,
apparently it works just less than 50% of the time.. so whats the point?!

they offered me one and i said no almost straight way, My OH didnt know what it was, so i explained it to him and he looked horrified and said he wouldnt have let them even if i had agreed to it! lol
so a section was my only choice

hmm I'll probably go find that thread in a bit, I love seeing when someone has a strop or something in a thread!
My MIL once had to put our grp 0 carseat in herself I told her to just follow the instructions on the side and she couldn't go wrong. although as usual she didn't listen and just put it in how she "thought it should go" she'd had him traveling facing forward!! (and it was a just grp 0 seat not one that can go either way!!) I wanted to punch her but managed to explain that what she had done was rather dangerous and she must never do it EVER again!

I slapped my OH the other day because he refused to put his belt on to nip to the shop. I said I didn't marry him and get preg with our 2nd child for him to die like an idiot and leave me to bring them up alone!

I think its barbaric! I was sooo glad that I got Chris to turn by himself and if it was a bottom down baby I would just go for every oldwives tale and alternative therapy in the hope of avoiding a c/s but that is mostly out of fear of any type of surgery!

  • I might have tried the old wives tales business if id of had more than 2 weeks notice,
i thought i was in labour after contracting all day, went to the hospital as i was just up the road visiting my mum (we live 40 mins away, didnt want to get home then have to come back) and they said not only was i not in labour despite the contractions but baby was breech...
my jaw hit the floor! lol

oh... and theres plenty of loopyness in the handwashing thread... its all gone OCD! lol

the OP has edited her first post 2 or 3 times now, it originally said that she wanted to ask a member of her family to wash before they touched her child but didnt make herself very clear, and is now regretting it!
