little Oz is acting up big time. he's got incredibly fussy about what he'll eat - basically the only thing i can get into him is toast, or rice cakes. He eats his weetabix no problem in the morning off a spoon but the rest of the day he point blank refuses anything. i've been making him dinners and putting it onto the toast and he'll take a few mouthfuls but nowhere near what he should be taking. the amount of food i'm wasting is awful. any suggestions anyone? i've tried him on sticks of carrot, pear and melon but he puts it in his mouth decides he doesnt like the feel of it and doesnt even take a bite! at wits end.

Will he eat off your plate? If you offer a spoonful of whatever you are having, it might tempt him.

I think they all go through likes and dislike phases. My 9 year old has just decided he hates bacon, but he's eaten it for years until now and still eats it if it's chopped and mixed into a sauce or something

Went out for an Indian tonight and just ordered the mild house curry for Charlotte. She left it and preferred eating my balti instead

You just can't win sometimes :D

b/feeding in the pub, I would do it, IF they let children in, but some of them just don't let children in at all, or only into certain parts, or only before a certain time in the evening. However things generally have improved since mine were young, and we were asked to leave one when DS1 was still in his first car seat. Landlord said he could lose his licence for allowing a minor in. :rotfl:

Thanks Susan and Heather for correcting me re iron in breastmilk.
My LO's paediatrician is going to do a blood test to check if he's anaemic at his 5 month check as he is exclusively breast fed and prem. From the info Heather wrote it sounds as if we've got nothing to worry about.

Thanks LuT-i'll see how LO is over next few days, if he's still crying a lot will get a MAM dummy.

usually if he'd been ill or teething and seemed to forgot what he liked and how to eat so I had to go back a step to mashed from whole for example and slowly introduce stuff again.
do you have friend wit children of a similar age? Chris always ate better at the childminders when all the kids were sat together or when we are round at friends and their LOs are eating. he'll even eat stuff that his granddad is eating that he point blank refuses anywhere else:rolleyes:
    forget mummy's or daddy's boy Chris is definately a Granddad's boy!:p

well he is a bit under weather at mo with some teething going on (i think) and has a bad cough. he hates anything too mashed or pureed, which i suppose is a good thing. i'm just trying to think of other crunchy things he can gnaw on himself. could he manage big pasta shapes at this age? i'm always afraid of him sucking them right in and choking on them. i worry too much about that i think :o

If he's happy eating bread then I would think he'd like pasta and could cope with it fine, Chris liked to have fusili,
does he like meat pastes? I found that was a good way to remind Chris that meaty things are nice he loves it on toast, I also give him Pate but I'm not sure if its ok before 12mths
Chips are always a winner and pretty simple to make yourself if you want to avoid additives
oh and Rakusen's 99% Crackers are nice and crunchy, they are like cream crackers but no salt and very low fat you can get them in most supermarkets,
If he's a savoury fan little cauliflower florets are a winner usually, just steam them a teeny bit and cool (and you can have them witha bit of dip too mmm)

    thanks!
i havent tried him on meat paste at all - in fact he's not a big meat eater yet, but thats something to try. not sure about pate either (though love it myself!). i'll try him on pasta. tried homemade healthy chips yesterday but he wasnt keen  .
i'll maybe try him on something like baby sweetcorn and cauliflour things like that this weekend. baby led weaning would've probably worked well for him but me and OH dont eat at night til after 7 or 7.30 and Oz is sleeping by 6.30, and also we eat a lot of stir frys and home made currys etc and i dont know how he would be able to eat that.

my dd loved curries at that age, babies can surprise you and eat food that you think they wouldn't. i used to give her chilli and mild curries.
mind you she's 2 1/4 now and is on hunger strike! she basically lives on pasta, cheese and yoghurts. all my lovingly prepared food just wasted.
