  • Hi all.....I'm back after a refreshing nights sleep!!! DS went all through the night for the first time ever last night....with the help of a teaspoon of baby rice in his last bottle....BF this morning and has just left with Dh to go to my mums for a whole day...seems a lot happier and so am I....

HV has been on the phone this morning asking why I didn't go to the clinic...plucked up the courage to tell her that I was busy and my life doesnt revolve around going to clinic. She told me that she was concerned about my mental well being and wanted me to go to mother and baby mornings. I told her that I can go to my sisters for that and that i have far too much on to be able to swan around having coffee..(have lots of livestock that need caring for when DS is asleep)..she seemed quite stunned that I stood up to her and said 'we'll discuss the issues when you next come to clinic'...told her that there was nothing to discuss and if she couldnt be supportive then I would go to the GP, make a formal complaint and ask for a new HV!!!

She wasn't too happy and said 'we'll talk at clinic'' and hung up.....!!!!!!

Thanks to you guys, I am not going to let the old dragon walk all over me and am taking my mother to the next clinic...well, fight fire with fire and believe me, my mother is firey and currently livid with the HV...(BTW I am in my thirties not a kid so feel a little childish but what the hell)....

I am now going to do some washing, clean out the animals and have a cup of tea!!!

Thanks again to everyone for their kind words!!!

We are about to venture into town for the first time - It is going to be an adventure for us both - not least trying to fit the buggy in my (very tiny) car!

It is FIL's 60th today, so we've got to go over to theirs tonight for a pub meal. No idea how the pub will feel about having a newborn baby there on a Friday night (and if they do let us stay I expect we will have to go sit in the car to breastfeed), but never mind. We are going to their house straight after I pick up DH from work, so we get to see everyone then, and if they pub won't let us in we can get a chippy tea on the way home and have an early night instead. Which wouldn't be such a hardship really ;0)

The new P&T from kiddicare arrived today despite them saying it wouldn't be ready until next week - woohoo!

I've had a great time setting it all up and playing the the accessories... am waiting for little miss to wake up so I can take her for a spin up the park :)

I've spent the last year dtermined not to become a yummy mummy with a bugaboo or quinny... I have the feeling a P&T might have tipped me over the edge though... are they cliche? :rotfl:

Why should you sit in a freezing cold car with a newborn baby who just wants some milk? I would just breastfeed in the pub, and ignore anyone who complains.

If the landlord throws you out, it would be a good press story - Cruel landlord throws young mother out into freezing cold for feeding her baby ;)

Pleased you stood up to the HV Maximum. I bet you feel a lot better now. Stick with us and we'll keep you right :D

I agree it should be a press story, but sadly it happens all the time and isn't! BBC London did a peice on this when I was pregnant and gave lots of airtime to ignorant male cafe owners who thought it was up to them whether babies could eat in their places. The article was trying to be 'balanced' but ended up making out women don't have the right to feed their kids in public.

Ladybird seeing as there will be a few of you going i doubt anyone will even notice when ur feeding anyway and I'm sure your family wouldn't stand for anyone complaining I know mine wouldn't :D have you got the nack of feeding under a shawl? or something if ur worried about causing a scene xx

Maximum glad you got some sleep last night! Maybe it was just a growth spurt thats coming to an end. Good on your mum for supporting you too :D You go girl! *snaps fingers and says ummm hmmm* ;)

So pleased you told her what you thought. She has no right to make you feel that way and clearly thinks she is more expert than the experts!

I weaned Imogen at 17 weeks and had to grit my teeth for her 15th and 16th weeks - she was on more than 40oz of hungry baby milk  For the first two weeks of weaning she took the whole 40oz plus three 'meals' of baby rice. We had a lovely HV at the time who helped me sort her milk out. Unfortunately she's now left and all of the others are a right shower!

I'm sofa-bound at the moment having a suspected pulled muscle which supports my uterus (sp?). It means I have an almost constant period-type pain. MW listened to the baby yesterday and the heartbeat was fine so I'm just resting up. Feel much better than yesterday and OH has just got home, so I can just put my feet up now.:T

Notenoughcash - when I was around that age my mum would take 10 mins off my 'coming home' time for every 5 minutes I was late home. At least I was in control of the sanctions, so it was pretty fair. Not sure I've got any wisdom to help you really as Imogen's only 2 (going on 22!)

If you're happy feeding her in public then they (the pub) can't stop you! My quoting might be a bit confuzzled but the essence is there: Essentially if they refuse to allow you to bf in their establishment they can be proscecuted (sp?) under the sexual discrimination laws, it's denting access to goods and services. The last I read about it they were also extending the maternity laws (protecting mothers nursing a child up to six months) but it was and still is covered under the sd law (for a mother nursing a child of any age).

The maternity law extension thing is a bit annoying tbh, the article I read was a reply to an piece in the paper (I think it was the daily mail) saying this law was coming into being and how it was a good thing as without it it was illegal to bf in public! My Aunt actually quoted that to me (as I sat in a restaurant bfing!) and I was rather glad I read the article! No chuffing clue where I read it or I'd provide a link!

Wow, that was a spectacularly long, dull post!

I think it's supposed to be "all right mother, it is me" :D

He calls me Ma now instead of Mam and I think it makes me sound ancient :o

He also thinks it cool to speak in a broad geordie accent - think Oz from Auf Wiedersehen Pet :o

Sorry, but that made me giggle. Plus I'm at work and in the staff room and my colleagues now think I'm crazy!
