We also let Imogen cry, although not until she was a few months old. It didn't take long for her to figure out that we weren't coming any time soon. I think we started at 5 mins and increased the length of time we left her every time she cried.

I firmly believe what the Baby Whisperer says that it takes 3 days to create a routine, and 3 days to break it!

    Good luck.

also you know your babys cry and if Oz ever sounds in proper distress (rather than i want my mummy) then obviously i go straight to him.

problem with that is recently during the day he seems to have worked out what will make me run - and then he's looking at me all fine just wanting someone to play with

  • I've just bought a laminator from Lidl today for £13. I am hoping to protect some of the stuff DS does at home and nursery, hole punch it, and then put it into a file...

Have you got a digital camera? You can make your own flashcards by taking pictures of things they know, like their cup, the dog, their teddy etc., and laminate those. I found my boys seemed to relate better to pictures of their own things, rather than just random pictures in a book.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Hi Becles

I was more thinking along the lines of saving the pieces of random 'artwork' that DS brings home ;). He adores the photo album that his pics from his birth onwards, so I thought we could make him a little one of his own, etc?

We've done flash cards of various relatives so that she knows who the ones we don't see so often are and also we use them when we tell her who is visiting.

Had a snotty day today - Lo had (very late) jabs on monday and it seems to have brought about the mother of all colds....every sneeze has led to literal streams of the green stuff down his face lol...:D

Nad I've not done the flashcards either although I had OH trying to convince me to show the baby piccies of his mum dad etc with granny grandad written on that he was going to make himself as apparantly that is a good way to get baby to learn to read, however the dvd/file (?) to do this never materialised and it's too boring an activity for me to do voluntarily. I'd much rather do a good book or singing session with the LO and leave that stuff to him.

I hope Oz is feeling better now - it's a while since we had a "bad day" like that but when it happens I just usually stick him in the pushchair and go shopping as the walls close in on me in when there's a screaming baby around.
