*curious george bounces into the thread*
we love dummies! i HATE seeing a chld suck their thumb, especially after a certain age...its a proper pet hate!
but i love a dummy (again...only up to a point! lol) my DD gave her dummies to the dummy fairy who took them all away one night in exchange for a lovely present, and similarly she gave up her bottles to santa, so he could give them to all the little babies who need them... cos she was far too grown up for such things, being a big girl and all....
this of course, was all some time ago and i have these things to go through again, Danny has a dummy when hes tired or upset,
he also has Max, a small bear attached a blanket that always stays in his cot,
Crispy trunk - a dumbo elephant attached to a blankie (called crispy trunk due to the amount of time danny spends chewing on the poor things snout!) and a new one that i actually bought to put on top of a nappy cake but its so like his others he decided it must be his... so we welcomed blanket bear to the family,
my DD now 8, still has a blanket she had as a baby, only in bed though and she also has the very first christmas present she ever opened, a skinny lilac cow called Molly Moo, if id have know how important Molly would be come, i would have bought 10 of them....
I still have my namesake Curious George, an original 70s one that ive had since i was a bubba, he now lives on the chest of drawers next to my bed and would be one of the things i would grab in the 'what material possession would you rescue in a house fire' situation
so...in summary, I love dummys, and comforters, but hate thumb sucking

I've come across a website that might be of use to some of you. It's a list of children's books around different topics from things like going to a dentist right up to adoption. There's a brief review of them, and the age they're aimed at.

Any thoughts for how I can encourage him to keep it in or am I destined to follow him round poking his tongue in until he hits adulthood and it becomes his first girlfriends problem?
dip your thumb in marmite and wipe it on the end of his tongue when hes least expecting it :rotfl:0 -
But CG my two would love it though and stick it back out for more!!
They do say its a love hate thing. now peanut butter would do it for Molly!0 -
Hi all..
Got a while to go yet until I can join you, but just wanted to mention the Asda Baby and Toddler Event that's coming up soon. Starts 27th Jan and ends 15th Feb. I got the mailing about it today - here is a list of the offers mentioned. www.asda-baby.co.uk should show everything eventually but there's no info there just yet.

PurpleP - I'm sorry for encouraging you to spend
I'm on a spending spree this month
Hubby is NOT amused - I will point out that what I bought was both needed and a bargain - honest!
I read my poetry books over and over for years and years tho! as I said my please mrs butler was falling apart in the end but I always looked after my books no folding of pages or spilling drinks near them so the only damage to them is through repeated reading, all the best ones are in mum's loft ready for Chris once he's learnt that books are not food!
Tsstss - have you mentioned the tongue thing to the HV or GP? I think it can be caused by a medical problem in some cases that needs surgery - tho I'm sure he's just being a boy
Chris is currently chewing his bottom lip all the time and its driving me mad, I'm sure he's gonna have permanent teeth marks soon!
Ps. Elle ur not allowed in here yet!0 -

yey on the surestart visit!
Mine arrived yesterday :j I was shocked seeing as the site said it would be 23rd. those instructions are so bad aren't they! I coped with them until I tried to fold it back up and just couldn't work it out! There is a very handy video that Kiddicare have put on youtube that helped, its on a slightly older model so not exact. I was a bit worried when I picked it up not sure how I'll go getting it in the car, the shape of it makes it more difficult to the 3D don't ya agree?
here's the vid for future http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ArMTtnpdqG4&feature=channel_page0 -
going back to the baby boys wee problem, all the nappy advice is sound, but if you have enough cot sheets and mattress protectors, layer the bed up: mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, sheet and so on until you run out of one or the other. Then you just whip the top layers off, and pop bubba back in.
If that's no longer advised for some reason, someone tell me. As you know, it's a long time since I had the problem of changing sheets in the middle of the night ...
Also, as well as making sure that all rude bits are pointing downwards as the nappy goes on, you might want to be cautious during changes! Get your bits together before you take the nappy off, then undo it and check where the rude bits are pointing BEFORE you uncover. Keep the nappy handy while you clean: even if it's a smelly one, you can grab them by the ankles and hold the rear end aloft while you clean, and only move it once they ARE clean, then get the new one folded over the rude bits quick.
That way you avoid too many wees in the eyes or on the ceiling.
I hope that doesn't sound too complicated for a new mum and dad: DH was a dab hand at it too. But we learnt the hard way. :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Have you tried teaching maths physically? Don't just use pen and paper, try using objects to teach maths.
Find some similar objects - buttons, counters, lego bricks, biscuits - whatever! Count out 10 of the items, and then start making the number bonds with them. She might find it easier if she sees a group of 4 and a group of 6, and so on.
You can also use the objects to go onto multiplication and division. Give her 8 and tell her to put them into groups of 2. Then you can explain that 4 groups of 2 is equal to 8, and eight split into 4 groups is equal to 2. It's amazing what little minds can pick up when they think it's a game.
My Dad is a retired maths teacher and he used to love teaching maths like this and watching the childrens minds work. He hates teachers who just say "this is how you do it, now do all the exercises on page 26" as he doesn't think children learn as well that way. Here I go again on my own....0
