I've heard too that reflux improves once baby is weaned. In fact, HV sugested to wean LO a little bit earlier than 6 months. I'm not keen but we'll see how he is closer to the time. She also suggested putting him in a baby carrier when going out and about. I've been doing this as i have a baby bjorn (he's only 12lb so easy enough at the mo!) but to be honest I'n not sure that i've noticed an improvement. I also put a pillow under his changing mat and play gym to prop him up.
We're stil waiting for appt as gaviscon not working and difficult to give as BF. He's in so much pain arching his back and screaming whilst feeding poor thing. Its so horrible to watch them screaming in pain.
I've got into so many bad habits whilst tryig to comfort him. Please dont shout but he sleeps in bed with me most of the night. He seems to sleep better. Also, (dont shout again!) i put him down on his tummy for a nap as he wont go on his back as it makes reflux worse. We have the breathing monitor thingy. I cant wait for the reflux to improve as i'm worried he'll get used to these bad habits...
I feel sometimes as we'll never get into a pattern where he sleeps most of the night in his own cot (he stil wakes every 2.5hrs for feed at night). I'm sooo tired and feel as if i could cry...
  • lwcus, my Grandma used to say if you need to take the baby into bed to get a good night sleep do it. Her thinking was if you (and baby) have slept the day is easier for everyone and she had 12 children so she did have a lot of experience.
I took my older two into my bed so everyone could sleep and with Tom we have a bedside cot so he thinks he's in our bed when really he's in his own cot (I didn't dare bring him in our bed as he was so tiny). You'll probably find that more people do it than are willing to admit to it - when I once confessed at work to letting the older two sleep with me most people said they'd done the same.

And I never had any trouble in getting them to sleep in their own beds when they were a little it older.

I wouldn't go shouting :A I've just popped in to say I worked out what Chris's 2nd comfort is, While he was asleep next to me in my bed this morning
He run's his fingers through his hair, I always find him asleep with one or both hands on top of his head if he's on his back.

Looks like dummy removal will have to wait as his "fangs" have decided they're going to appear anytime soon! last night he was up at 10, 12, 4, 5, 7:30

Purple: I'm gonna mention that spending money again *ducks for cover*
I'm not sure there will be anything for the level you need but I remember listening to a cassette (remember them!) everyday on the way to school it was carol vordaman singing the times tables to help me learn them:cool:

Oh dont worry, i think a LOT of people take baby into bed at one point or another. I got into this habit when my little man had a bad cold (at about 6 months) and he was waking every 30 mins or so, he slept in our bed for about 4 weeks! And like you i was saying i know its a bad habit and i felt bad about it, but I don't now, cos I know he slept better and so I slept better and everyone was happy.

And I completely sympathise with you feeling he'll never sleep all night, Oz woke every 2 hours for a feed (at least) for most of the first 6 months, and most of time i just dealt with it but sometimes i thought i would go insane - and I did cry i was so tired. But now he's in his own room and wakes usually about 10.30 and then 3.30am for a feed and thats it. (my friends think even this is terrible - but its a BIG improvement!)

Your baby will get there, i promise, and in the meantime just come here and moan and groan all you like - thats what we here for!
    DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY ;)

  • Hi reflux mummies, sorry can't remember names and gotta be quick, supposed to be doing our accounts whilst Molly sleeps.

I've heard weaning helps a bit but to be honest the puke just turned from white which is more disguisable to orange or red or whatever she had eaten. What I did find that helped was mash potato, she didn't puke so easily on it and its cream coloured.....yey! I think it helped to soothe her throat as it sat heavy in her tummy and kept some of the acid in. Then over time I added bits of veg and meat to it etc.

With the acid pukey baby, is there nothing the GP can do, rather than wait for the paedatrician? After our visit to the paed, Molly went on ranitidine, which work for a month then didn't. I took her back to the doc and they immediately put her on omeprazole (fantastic stuff, total livesaver, but only in liquid, tabs are total nightmare as they don't dissolve properly). Anyway I doubt you'd get that first as its stronger than ranitidine. Keep pushing, that boy is probably waking in the night as he's hungry from puking in the day. I weaned Molly at 1 day before 4 months as the paed suggested I reduce her bottles by an oz to help the puking. She got really hungry so I weaned. She's a big lass anyway. Only 4lbs now between her and big bro.

I've got the inchworm song on a lullaby CD that I played constantly when pregnant with Jack hoping he'd recognise it at night time. All that happened was when he was born I was so fed up with it we changed it for Enya!

Molly was a bad puker but finally over xmas it got better and she has a bib off most of the time now, she was 10.5 months. I remember a week before saying its never going to happen, I can't see her not having reflux, Jack was done by now etc. But at worst it can be around the 1yr mark before it improves but not always, as my two weren't.

Reflux is also more common in boys than girls, which is why I was gutted to deal with again. People kept saying to me, your having a girl that's great probably won't have reflux.....oh well.

I also remember when Jack was weeny, around 4-6 weeks, I'd been out with Mum for the day, we'd got through 10 vests and sleepsuits (I had to pack a lot back then) and it was 6pm he'd had a bath, I'd laid him down to dry and dress, was just putting on a fresh sleepsuit and yep more puke. I just sat on the sofa and cried. I was so tired and fed up of it all. Mum gave me a hug and said she'd deal with it. I also remember counting how many bibs I had for him it was over 60, that's been added to since as people gave us pink ones too!

(I really must stop talking about reflux)

Just want you to know your not alone and it does eventually end.

OMG don't take this the wrong way but listening to Carol Vorderman singing anything, let alone the times tables, is my idea of hell! :rotfl:

The curriculum newsletter for this term for Year 1 says 'know by heart all the pairs of numbers that make 10', so I will persevere!
This might make you feel better - my DS1 is the same age (ish!) - he'll be 6 in July - and AFAIK they're nowhere near this yet! When they do 'pairs', they're just doing 2+2, 3+3 type of thing

And I do totally agree with Becles' Dad - how can you do targets like that for 5-year-olds?

Thank you Chocoholic for the games links - DS1 will love them. :T (And is it sad that I've just been playing the pairs game? :o :rotfl: )

Think it was on a film I used to watch when I was younger. Hans Christian Anderson, maybe, although that might not be the title. Definitely Danny Kaye singing, I think!

Yep you're right, the film was Hans Christian Anderson and starred Danny Kaye... I love this film ( mind you love any film with Danny Kaye in / old musicals - sad I know)
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.
